Employee Spotlight: Michelle (Shelley) Shepard, Physical Therapy Assistant

Shelley was born and raised in Michigan. While attending Baker College, she worked as a PT Tech, which helped her through school. After graduation, she worked for 16 years in a Long Term acute care hospital in Michigan where she learned the definition of teamwork and her passion for the geriatric population was born. Shelley has lived in the Keys and worked for Island Home Care for seven years now and loves every minute of it! “It's like going to work and coming home to vacation everyday!” In her spare time, she loves spending time with family and friends on the water and Football Sundays!

In honor of National Physical Therapy Month, we are please to spotlight our newest physical therapist, Valarie Blanton:

Valarie has been a home health physical therapist for 21 years in South Carolina. She recently moved to the keys to live out her dream of living the island life. She has an undergraduate degree in public health from Clemson university, and a master's and doctorate degree in physical therapy from the medical university of South Carolina. After a lot of research, she decided to become a physical therapist because it combined her love of sports and medicine. She began her career in an outpatient orthopedic PT office and then fell in love with home health. “I love that home health incorporates the patient and family dynamic as a whole and not just treating the diagnosis.” In her spare time, she loves boating, fishing, scuba diving, and time with her Frenchies.
