10 weeks post-partum and stomach is on flat flat.

If you are several weeks, months, or even years post-partum and you wonder, “why do I still look pregnant?”, it might be time to see a pelvic floor physical therapist.

If that stubborn belly pooch won’t go away with diet & exercise, it could be a result of:
▫️a pelvic floor issue
▫️poor intra-abdominal pressure management
▫️deep core weakness
▫️c-section adhesions

All of these issues can be addressed with pelvic floor physical therapy!

The differences between an OB assessment and a Pelvic Floor PT assessment post-partum👆🏼

Pelvic floor PT is standard of care in many countries but not in the US. Mamas should not be forgotten after they birth their baby.

Leaking when sneezing, coughing, laughing, jumping, and exercising is common, but not normal. Pain with s*x is also common, but not normal.

Pelvic pain, prolapse, and scars from tearing or episiotomies and c-sections should also be addressed.

Just because you had a c-section doesn’t mean your pelvic floor/vagina wasn’t affected.

Studies show that prevalence of prolapse and incontinence are greater in women who had a vaginal delivery.

However it doesn’t mean that women who had a c-section are free from pelvic floor dysfunction.

Your body and pelvic floor experienced prolonged stress throughout the length of your pregnancy. This can contribute to pelvic floor muscle dysfunction and cause:

▪️weakness
▪️pelvic & low back pain
▪️pain with s*x
▪️bowel dysfunction
▪️bladder dysfunction

Since a c-section is a major abdominal surgery, it is also important to evaluate the incision, scar tissue restriction, muscle activation, and diastasis recti.

We highly recommend getting evaluated by a pelvic floor PT to make sure everything is functioning optimally regardless of the type of birth you had.
