We’re so excited to introduce our September 2025 Patient of the Month, Trudy Commander! This charming little lady is an absolute delight to have at our practice, and we’re honored to have her as a patient. Below, you’ll find some photos and a bio written by her amazing human.

Trudy is a 1-year-old blue Sphynx who brings joy to everyone she meets; no one is a stranger to her. Her favorite activities include hanging out with her canine best friend and spending supervised time outdoors. Her morning routine includes running on her cat wheel after a hearty breakfast—usually chicken pâté. Like all Sphynx cats, she maintains a grooming schedule and isn’t afraid of taking a splash! Most nights (or even for a cat nap), Trudy insists on sleeping with her human companions and will find a way under the covers at all costs.

Congratulations to Trudy on being named our Keys Animal Care Center September 2025 Patient of the Month! Thank you to the Commander family for letting us be a part of this sweet Sphynx’s life.

We’re so happy to introduce our August 2025 Patient of the Month: Sawyer Schaffer! This sweet girl is a joy to have at our practice, and we’re honored to have her as a patient. Below, you’ll find some wonderful photos and a bio written by her loving family.

Sawyer is a 10-year old Australian Shepherd.

She has gone through two knee surgeries, so she can’t walk as long as she used to, but she still loves to run, just as she always has. She is also very talkative and barks to say hello and goodbye to visitors to our house. Unfortunately she believes every single boat that drives by is a “visitor to our house.” Sometimes, boats pass our house and the occupants yell out “Hi Sawyer,” even though they don’t know our names and we don’t know theirs... I guess we yell at her to be quiet a lot!

Sawyer’s favorite things to do are going for walks, lying around in the sunlight (no matter the temperature), and swimming (both saltwater and pool water are fine with her). Her best friends are Biru across the street, our son’s dog Shea, and her “Uncle” Alan, who walks the neighborhood every day with treats in his pocket. But her true love is her Daddy.

Congratulations to Sawyer on being named our Keys Animal Care Center August 2025 Patient of the Month! Thank you to the Schaffer family for letting us be a part of this awesome Aussie’s life.

We are delighted to introduce Shango and Charlie Difolco as our July 2025 Patients of the Month! Below, you will find some photos and a bio about these handsome gentlemen, written by their amazing humans:

“Charlie and Shango are brothers from another mother who, despite the size difference, somehow enjoy each other’s company and will even occasionally snuggle with each other. Charlie is the 17-year-old Daschund boss of the house. He barks when he is ready to eat, snuggle next to his Human, come inside the house, or go outside with the rest of his pack. He loves to snuggle under blankets, go for car rides, nap, eat snacks, have his stuffies nearby, and snuggle next to his mom. In fact, his favorite thing is just that: his mom. He loves to go for long walks mostly by riding in his stroller with occasional breaks to get out sniff and do his business. Despite his advanced age he still has his moments of puppy-ness, most notably while on family walks and he sees another human who he hopes has treats available.
Shango, a true Conch, who was born and raised in the Keys, is our 8-year-old
Rhodesian Ridgeback baby. He is the biggest, sweetest couch potato who always knows when it is Human race day. He has participated in over ninety-five 5K races in Key West and shows his excitement by barking before the gun goes off and jumping a few feet in the air. Other than enjoying running with his humans he enjoys sleeping on the couch or bed, and sunbathing by the pool. When you go to rub him, he likes to lean into you and with his 105 pounds, if you aren’t careful, will knock you over when you are giving him rubs.”

Congratulations to Shango and Charlie on being chosen as the Keys Animal Care Center July 2025 Patients of the Month, and thank you to the DiFolco family for allowing us to care for these two handsome pups!

Keys Animal Care Center is excited to announce our June 2025 Patients of the month, Sandy and Primo Dicksey. Below, you will find some photos of these gorgeous girls, as well as some info about them, as written by their amazing owners, Dr. Krista Dicksey, and her husband Andrew.

“Sandy and Primo are amazing dogs and are a huge part of our family. Sandy, AKA Sanders, or Colonel Sanders, is a 12-year-old mix that still acts like a puppy. She’s a native Floridian from Pinellas County, whom we adopted after she was hit by a car as a pup. Her favorite things to do include giving hugs, sleeping, and playing with stuffed animals. Primo is an 8-year-old chihuahua that we adopted in Hawaii. She makes up for her tiny size with her huge personality. Primo loves food, her sister, and sunbathing. She’s also a local champion, having won the chihuahua races in 2023. We can’t thank Keys Animal Care Center enough for all the love and attention that has been given to them.”

We would like to thank the Dickseys for not only allowing us to care for Sandy and Primo, but for spending the last couple of years as beloved members of our Keys Animal Care Center family. We will miss you all, and wish you well in your future endeavors.
