Meet our March Patient of the month Salty Kruth! Below Salty’s owners have been so kind to introduce us with a bio.
Hi, I’m Salty Dawg, named after my future, love of the ocean and the infamous Salty Dog Saloon in Homer, Alaska.

I am 5 months young and 46 pounds heavy, I’m growing like a w**d. My mom’s a golden retriever and my dad’s a Labrador retriever, making me as my parents like to call me, a Goldadoor.

As a 8 week old puppy, I drove across country in an RV for 3 weeks movinng here It was alot of fun but I think, but I think I drove my parents crazy because keep repeating, “whose crazy idea was it to travel across country with a new puppy?”

I live in Key West, where the water’s warm and so are the coconuts. My parents are teaching me to be a water baby, so I can live up to my “Salty” name.

Currently, I’m taking swimming lessons at dog beach and learning the ropes on the boat. My dad’s got big plans for me - he wants me to be a “Crabador” extraordinaire. We’ll see about that.

Come summer, I’m off to Sequim, Washington to learn the art of Dungeness crabbing. Don’t worry, I’ll stick to the shallow end... for now. On a not-so-proud note, I failed my bird dog test when some feisty chickens hijacked my ride - I mean, who doesn’t love a good car party? I didn’t flinch, but another customer did snap a photo and ratted me out.

Right now, I’m working on my manners, trying not to jump ship when visitors arrive. Key West is my playground, and I’m soaking up all the water fun. Soon, I’ll be mastering “Coco Loco”- that’s diving & swimming for coconuts in the backyard canal, for the uninitiated.

I have my own page called “Salty Dawg” if you want to follow my adventures growing up

We are excited to share with you the first Patient of the Month for 2026: John Wayne Hemingway. This sweet, handsome boy is one of the over 60 felines who resides at the Hemingway Home and Museum.

Unlike his namesake’s “tough guy” persona, this John Wayne is the ultimate diplomat of the gardens. At 2.5 years old, he is in the prime of his youth, possessing a playful energy that he balances with a remarkably calm demeanor. While some cats at the museum prefer to nap in the shadows of the limestone mansion, John Wayne can usually be found right in the middle of the action.

John Wayne has mastered the art of the “meet and greet.” He is known among staff and visitors alike as one of the sweetest cats on the property. Whether he’s lounging near the famous swimming pool or greeting guests by the writing studio, he never misses an opportunity for a head scratch or a gentle purr. He treats every visitor like an old friend, embodying the relaxed, welcoming spirit of the island.

Thank you to the Hemingway Home and Museum for allowing us to provide veterinary care for all of their feline friends, and thank you to all of our wonder clients for a fantastic 2025. We can’t wait to see you all in 2026!

We’re so delighted to introduce our December 2025 Patients of the Month, Malibu and Hank! Below you will find some photos of these two cuties, as well as resumes written by their wonderful humans.
Malibu
Aka: Boo Boo | 5-year-old Mini Persian Rescue
Queen. Icon. Connoisseur of bubble baths.
Malibu rules the household (and our hearts) with elegance and a touch of sass. A little shy at first, she secretly adores being the center of attention—ideally while lounging in a warm sunbeam. She enjoys belly rubs, refined relaxation, and never passes up a treat (and will be sure to remind you if you forget!).
Don’t let her regal looks fool you—Malibu is a fierce and skilled huntress, known for protecting the home from unsuspecting lizards, bugs, and even the occasional baby iguana. She tolerates her goofy little brother Hank… and though she would never admit it, she absolutely loves him.

Hank
Aka: Hanky Panky | Almost 3-year-old English Labrador
Certified goofball. Professional snuggler. Spirit of pure sunshine.
Hank is 85 pounds of unfiltered joy who is fully convinced he’s a lap dog. He starts every morning with world-class zoomies and a happy stroll down Duval Street with his dad, spreading laughter and Labrador love to everyone he meets. He has never met a stranger, only new friends—and even more opportunities for pets.
Hotdogs are his treat of choice, though he graciously accepts all snacks. He adores his big sister Malibu, even if she isn’t exactly a fan of his big, wet kisses. Hank loves visiting his friends at Keys Animal Care, where his charm, wagging tail, and signature smile brighten every single visit.
Congratulations to Hank and Malibu on being named our Keys Animal Care Center December 2025 Patients of the Month!

We’re so excited to introduce our November 2025 Patients of the Month, Bailey and Bella! Below you will find some photos of these two beautiful Biewer terriers, as well as a bio written by their wonderful humans, Bob and Tim.

Bailey and Bella are Biewer Terriers, pint sized bundles of enjoyment. Bailey came along first, four years ago, but during that first year we thought he needed to have a playmate for company, so the next year Bella joined our family. These two share the same sire, but their unique personalities suggests that Momma makes all the difference in the world.
Bailey (4 years) is our affectionate lover boy, excited to meet new people. In general he is a very chill dog, whose main goal in life is to find himself being held, or sitting on someone’s lap. He is a definite attention seeker 24/7. He loves his playtime with Ducky, Chicken, Fox and, sometimes, with Bella. He is very pack-focused, and does not like having to do things without all four of us together.
Bella (3 years) is a true spitfire and wild child. She is the youngest and smallest member of the household, but she is in charge. She lets us know when it’s time to get up, time to eat, time to walk, time to play, and when it’s time for her nap. She loves some cuddle time in the mornings and at bedtime, but also loves her independence. She is forever vigilant, looking for yard intruders (birds, iguanas) to chase away and keep us safe!

Both enjoy people, and meeting the occasional right-sized (i.e., small) friendly dog. They love their treats and their toys, and are great car travelers for long road trips. What a delight they have brought to our lives.

Congratulations to Bailey and Bella on being named our Keys Animal Care Center November 2025 Patients of the Month!
