A Self-Healing Response to Social Distress.
My experience is that the ability to wait until I can offer the most loving response to myself and others is the key to moment-to-moment healing in these stressful times. Pausing creates space for breathing. Breathing reminds me I’m quite physically connected to everyone and everything. I send my breath into the world and it creates more love and tenderness or more fear and anger. If I pause long enough, I choose to love and be tender to myself. If I choose that for me, it’s easier to choose a loving and tender response to other people.
According to the ancient wisdom systems of Astrology/Astronomy, the I Ching, The Kabbala, and the Rig Veda, physical stress is a collective phenomenon. This means each human being reacts physically to the distress that the whole of humankind is experiencing. The more recent distillations of these systems known as Human Design and the Gene Keys map out in detail how every human being is a complex symphony of vibrations made of individual, collective/logical, collective/emotional, and collective/tribal vibrational patterns. Each of us has 64 genetic/archetypal operating systems that are 1/3 individual and 2/3 collective. Each of us contributes our unique combination of individual and collective vibrations to all the rest of us.
Cutting-edge modern physics has recently aligned with these ancient and recent systems of understanding the nature of humanity and physical reality. There is wide agreement now that everything we are and everything we see and experience is the interaction of complex wave patterns and vortices of energy. Physical particles make up only 0.001% of the universe and are a condensation of energy waveforms that are organized into structures by vibrational patterns, not the other way around.
Modern Medical Science is stuck in an uncomfortable transition from the outdated theory that the human body and the universe are a physical phenomenon that energy emanates from…to a theory that everything is a vibrational pattern and that changing the pattern supports or undermines health. The wonders of vibrational medicine have been proven beyond a doubt in the realms of medical imaging technology. However, technological medicine uses vibrations for mostly destructive purposes such as ionizing radiation therapy.
Recently, myriad vibrational healing technologies and practices, both of ancient and modern origin are finding their way slowly into the mainstream of Healthcare. Even the traditionally resistant sciences of genetics and biology are coming around to the inevitable conclusion that human beings are a collective of human cells and microorganisms that are in constant adaptive response to the environment both inside and outside of the human body.
In my opinion, it would take a real gift for denial to claim that the disturbing effects of events such as 911, the pandemic, the non-stop barrage of more and more frequent and intense natural disasters, or this upcoming election do not affect each of our physical sense of well being. These are just some of the more far-reaching vibrational patterns that every single one of us has to process daily.
So what does one little human being do? Amazingly, we have direct access to the most powerful organizing and healing force in the universe. Love. It has at least 64 names because it comes prewired into our genetic operating instructions. Some of my favorites are Play, Patience, Understanding, Idealism, Insight, Simplicity, Generosity, Honesty, Intimacy, Discernment, Discipline, Resourcefulness, Intuition, Tenderness, Compassion, Integrity, Vitality, Inspiration, Inquiry, Imagination, Perseverance, Guidance, Leadership, Grace, Resolve, Determination, Versatility, Artistry, Authority and Presence.
All of these powers are available to me when I pause and wait for the kindest, most skilled, and most loving response to my distress and other’s distress. All these words represent wave patterns that organize physical matter into coherent and harmonious patterns. We all feel the collective stresses of the world physically, but the best response to relieve and heal from the discord and disruption of stress may be hugs, physical movement, changing your posture, meditation, energy medicine, bodywork, acupuncture, breathing, change of diet, change of environment, surgery, medication, changing who you keep company with, artistic expression, prayer, personally preferred sexual expression, listening to and creating music, plant medicine and other forms of shamanic journeying. The list is as extensive and specific as the number of humans alive.
A personal example is that I discovered by pausing long enough to determine what was actually going on, that much of my anxiety which I felt in the early morning hours was the direct result of sleeping in a posture that caused my neck to tense up, putting pressure on my vagus nerve and throwing me into mental gyrations to try to explain what I felt anxious about. I could very well believe that my pile of unfinished tasks is what is causing my anxiety, or I can do some simple pressure point releases, and adjust my pillow to allow my neck to relax and fall blissfully back into restorative sleep for another few hours!
The art of contemplation is the art of pausing. It takes extensive practice to learn to pause, but it doesn’t take that much time once you learn to choose to pause rather than react. It doesn’t take 30 years of sitting meditation, psychotherapy, or yoga movements. I’ve learned that pausing and resting in NOT knowing what to do is what allows my creative intuition to transmit images, feelings, and understandings through my responses to my clients. I've found that every time I choose to rest, even for a few moments, breathe, and wait, my response is more caring, calming, and loving. When I pause, sometimes for what seems like a long time, I’m able to discern what wavelength or signature of energy I need or what my clients need to return to healthy physical resonance and harmony.
Each and every one of us is a vast storehouse of creativity and genius. Each one of us has human, knowledge, spiritual, emotional, and physical resources that can be accessed in each moment when we pause long enough to wait for the best response to the stress we are feeling. Following are a few of my recent favorite resources to rewire my reptilian brain reactions into loving and considered responses.
Ohhh, and oh yeah, this is my newsletter…so…reminding you that Eye of the Needle Sacred Anatomy Energy Medicine is my go-to modality for helping myself de-stress and I’ve been practicing it for 23 years now! And I’ve been practicing Acupuncture for 38 years now! (Whaat?). See links in comments.
