Want to hear my #1 ninja tip for better nutrition?

Fill in the gaps.

I shared about this in my stories yesterday, but wanted to make sure you didn’t miss this.

Because here's the truth: our bodies need CRUCIAL NUTRIENTS to thrive, and relying on food to give us everything we need is just unreliable. Our soil is depleted. Even whole foods do not contain the nutrients they once did. Obviously, still eat as many whole foods as you can, but FILL IN THE GAPS.

Listen, I know you might say "I eat really healthy". And I hope you do, but honestly? If you want to THRIVE vs just survive ... listen up.

I am in love with the idea of foundational nutrition.

Using clinically proven, bioavailable, crucial nutrients that lay the foundation for better digestion, immune function, heart health, skin health and more. In one easy packet, optimized for absorption and integration, support all the major body systems.

Want to give it a try? Drop a YES below and I'll send you over a code for $25 off!

Let's talk about August shall we?

I know we're all in agreement that 2020 has been... let's just say challenging. My personality type (ENFP-T; Enneagram 2/Wing 8; Blue/Red for all of you fellow personality type junkies) does not do well with dwelling in negative spaces. So, naturally, I've been pushing myself to keep a positive mindset, avoid complaining, and be a problem solver vs. a whiner. Some days that is easier said than done, but it definitely makes me a more sane person to aim for that goal each day.

August brought the challenges y'all. From home repair nightmares, to major business transitions, to starting our 3rd year of homeschooling the 10 year old and beginning to start preschool home school activities with the soon-to-be 3 year old. Throw in close personal friends walking through some stressful/scary life stuff, and you get the picture!

As I sit here, now that September and all of it's promise of Pumpkin Spice everything and glorious extended-summer weather (because I live in Texas and fall usually arrives the week before Christmas), it occurs to me that August was a great teacher.

August taught me that I am a decent problem solver. I am capable of doing hard things. I am an overcomer. You might see me fall, but you won't see me stay down. EVER.

August showed me (once again) that God's plans are always better than my own.

August reminded me that motherhood is always hard work. It also reminded me that no matter how hard motherhood is, it is forever my MOST important job.

Gratitude is a powerful thing, and it is amazing how it can change you. I choose to be grateful for these lessons. To carry them with me as I march into September. Maybe I'll even have a pumpkin spice something or other to celebrate them.

So how 'bout you? What did August teach you?

When I say I love this company for more than the oils, I TRULY mean it.

From our Young Living Corporate Leaders:

“We’ve been deeply inspired by the thoughtfulness and compassion of our members who are looking out for their family, friends, and neighbors by taking the spread of COVID-19 seriously. Members across the globe are carefully following public health best practices, including self-isolation, social distancing, and thorough handwashing. And beyond that, they’re looking out for one another—checking in with the most vulnerable, supporting small businesses in innovative ways, and serving those most confined to their homes.

Here at Young Living, we also are deeply concerned about the wellbeing of our friends and neighbors throughout the global community. Beyond taking the necessary measures to protect our employees and members, we also want to give back to those hit hardest by the economic impact of isolation measures. Through the entire month of March, we are committing 1% of all North American Thieves product line proceeds will go to the Meals on Wheels COVID-19 Response Fund. This fund will assist Meals on Wheels programs in the US and Canada.

Meals on Wheels serves as an invaluable lifeline to 2.4 million vulnerable older adults, the majority of whom have multiple chronic conditions. To learn more, go to https://www.mealsonwheelsamerica.org/.

We understand that as a company, we are a part of the community, and we take our stewardship and responsibility to look out for others very seriously. It is our hope that this donation will make a difference for those most in need. I cannot overstate how humbling and gratifying it is to watch our Young Living family look out for one another. As the situation continues to develop, let’s please join together in looking for new ways to help those who need a hand. Thank you for all you do.

Best regards,

JT”

Still on this 40 Day Sugar Fast (day 25 💪🏻👊🏻) and feeling motivated to find other small ways to reduce the “junk” we take in. So I jumped on the bandwagon and purchased an Almond Cow..... y’all.... oh. Em. Gee.

My first batch I made oat milk...
🔘1 cup whole grain oats (aka groats in the almond cow community)
🔘pinch of pink Himalayan salt
🔘splash of pure maple syrup or some date paste
🔘dash of vanilla
🔘splash of avocado oil for creaminess
🔘5 cups water (to the min line in the Almond Cow)
🔘run 2 cycles

It was soooooo yummy and so much better than the store bought stuff we’ve had! I only tried a sip bc I’m trying not to sub sugar for sweeteners like maple syrup on this fast, but the toddler LOVED it!! I can’t wait to try other recipes now! Officially a fan of the Almond Cow 🙌🏻🙌🏻🥛

Working on 40 of 100oz of water for the day. 💦

Why? Bc I like to live on the edge and after 2 kids believe me, this totally counts. 🚽

Seriously though, keeping your water intake up when you are detoxing is sooooo important. Water helps your kidneys perform optimally and those babies are pretty important to this detox process. Water helps your body flush out toxins, supports proper digestion, helps move oxygen throughout the body via your blood, helps the body absorb nutrients & minerals, & keeps your skin healthy.

If water is essential to all of these bodily functions, can you start to guess how much havoc we wreak on our bodies by dehydrating ourselves? The absence of enough water in our bodies is NOT our friend.

Today is Day 9 of my 40 day sugar detox. I’ve been aiming for 95-100oz of water each day. I don’t hit my goal every day but I haven’t finished a day with below 70oz yet. Progress! Water has been helping me stay full between meals & keep those cravings to a minimum. Dehydration often feels like hunger pangs. So drink up friends! And know that every trip to empty that bladder just means those kidneys are working!

Happy Wednesday! Keep putting one foot in front of the other and running after those goals! 💪🏻👊🏻

This week has been a whirlwind. I started a 40-Day sugar detox on Monday, & on Tuesday my mother fell & is still hospitalized. Friday brought crazy severe weather & damage to our little dot on the map. Stressssssssssss! 🤦🏻‍♀️

But ya know what? I’m still going strong! No sugar for 6 days and counting, despite the fact that I could’ve easily chosen to use this stress as an excuse to post-pone my detox. 🙌🏻

Every time something tempting was staring me in the face, I had to remind myself that it would just make me have to start over. NOT WORTH IT.

What was your biggest struggle this week? How did you overcome it?

A GOOD STEWARD OF MY BODY

Some of you may have seen my previous post about STEWARDSHIP. For those of you that missed it, stewardship is my word for 2020. As I begin to plan how I’m going to let that word shape my year, my body seemed like a natural starting point. One of the most basic blessings I’ve been entrusted with is my physical body. So am I being a good steward of it? If I’m being vulnerable and honest, the answer is an emphatic NO. I never want to give the impression of a fake, perfect life on here. I always want to be REAL. And the reality is that for the last several years, I’ve allowed BUSY and TOXIC SCHEDULING to rule my life. I have allowed our diets, and consequently our health, to take a backseat to convenience. That’s ok on occasion because it isn’t realistic to expect perfection. We are going to be tired sometimes. It comes with adulting unfortunately. The key is to not let it become the rule rather than the exception. I dropped the ball on that one, but I’m picking it back up!

I started asking myself how I could be a better steward of my body. Here’s what I came up with: Treat it like you love it. Treat it at least as well as you would someone else’s body if they entrusted you with it. Nourish it. Strengthen it. TAKE CARE OF IT.

But I’ve been so neglectful of my body for so long now, where would I even begin? I decided to start with sugar. Sugar is poison. That may seem harsh and over-exaggerated, but if you do a little research on what sugar does to our bodies, it is as accurate as can be. Sugar is addicting, and I am addicted to it. For me it isn’t sodas and candy, as much as baked sweets and ice cream. And sugary coffee drinks. How do you give up something you’re addicted to? You detox.

So today, I’m starting a 40-Day Sugar Detox. Want to join me? It might be easier if I have some friends to walk alongside me as I take this on. No catch or fee….just strength in numbers! I’ll create a group and add anyone who tells me they want to be added. I’ll be posting daily in the group and offering encouragement by sharing recipes and things that are helping me as I go. And sharing my struggles as they come, too! Here’s to kicking sugar addiction to the curb!

New year new me? Why not?!

As 2019 came to a close, I did something I’ve never done before. I prayed for a word for me to focus on in 2020. I’d seen friends doing this over the years, and I’ve enjoyed watching as they share their words. It is always inspiring to see how the word they choose comes to life as the year unfolds. So what word did I receive for 2020?

STEWARDSHIP.

Miriam-Webster defines stewardship as “the conducting, supervising, or managing of something; especially: the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one's care.”

What does this mean for me as I start my journey into this new year? It means taking stock of all that already have, and being genuinely grateful for it. It means watering my grass (as opposed to noticing how green everyone else’s grass is). It means refusing to compare. It means investing time into how I can take better care of my blessings. It means being more intentional. It means hard work. It means sacrifice. It means that if I give it my best effort, even if I don’t succeed 100% percent of the time at living up to it, that I will close out 2020 a healthier, happier, better wife, mother, Christian, family member, business owner, leader and PERSON.

So there it is. Raw and real. This is my goal. I’ll be sharing all the ways I plan on living out this word in 2020, so if you see me posting about it, encourage me! I’ll need it! And I’ll be doing the same for you!

A Challenge

2020 is here and all across my newsfeed I’m seeing *3* types of posts. Posts of reflection on the decade that just ended, posts looking to the future via goals for the year or decade ahead, and posts making fun of the aforementioned types of posts.

My challenge to you is to not be the last guy. Encourage and empower your friends who are setting goals and running after them. Successful people are goal setters! A new year is a great starting point. Will everyone achieve their goals? No. But will they progress in a FORWARD direction, achieving SOMETHING along the way? Absolutely. Running towards a goal will always (at the very least) move you closer to the goal than if you had stayed where you already were! And that, my friends, is what I consider success.

What are your goals for 2020? I want to hear them!
