Trigger point
Equine trigger point sports massage therapy involves identifying and applying direct, sustained pressure (via thumbs, fingers, or elbows) to hyperirritable nodules in a horse’s muscle tissue to release tension and eliminate pain. This therapy enhances flexibility, range of motion, and circulation while reducing lactic acid buildup. It is commonly used for performance enhancement, injury recovery, and to address behavioral issues caused by pain.
Common Locations:
Trigger points often occur at the musculotendinous junctions (where muscle meets tendon) and areas subjected to high stress.
Causes: Trigger points develop due to overwork, inadequate warm-ups, lack of stretching, or fatigue.
Benefits:
Increased flexibility, improved posture, enhanced performance, and increased blood flow to muscles.
Signs of Release:
Indicators during the session include yawning, licking, chewing, and muscle twitches, indicating a reduction in tension.
