ABA is often misunderstood as solely focusing on compliance, but prioritizing client autonomy and wellbeing actually fosters growth and regulation by reducing distress.

Pairing in ABA is how a behavior technician (BT) establishes a positive, trusting relationship with a client. Pairing can involve playing a favorite game, discussing a special interest, or incorporating that special interest into a session. This approach aims to create an engaging environment where the client can feel confident and validated.

It’s April, which means it is Autism Awareness Month. In the spirit of awareness, we want to engage in some myth-busting about individuals on the spectrum.

People often try to label autistic individuals as having “mild autism” or “severe autism.” The truth is, we call it a spectrum for a reason. Individuals on the autism spectrum are incredibly diverse in their language skills, sensory processing, relationships, emotional regulation, and more.

This is important because when you try to fit an individual into a category, you neglect their unique needs and skills. Support for each individual on the autism spectrum should be tailored to them and not based on a label. That’s why at CTBS, we emphasize that ABA is not a one-size-fits-all approach! ♾️

🌟 Employee Spotlight!! 🌟
Introducing… 🥁 Felisa Crumley!!

Felisa is a proud Lampasas native, born and raised, and has called this small-town home her entire life. Family is at the center of everything she does—she and her husband, Eric, have been together since they were 19 and have built a beautiful life together. They are the proud parents of 13-year-old twins, Brielle and Coby, who keep them busy and full of joy as they prepare to start high school next year! Their home is also filled with love from their four fur babies—dogs Max and Maddie, and cats Flaco and Angel.

Felisa currently works as an RBT with CTBS, where her journey began in a special way. While working as a paraprofessional in the Special Education department at Hanna Springs Elementary, she became curious about ABA after seeing the CTBS team in action. After a well-timed (and slightly joking!) suggestion from Angela, she took a leap of faith, reached out, and quickly found herself interviewing with CTBS. Now, over three years later, she continues to love what she does—supporting students and making a meaningful impact while still working within LISD classrooms.

When she’s not at work, Felisa finds the most joy in the simple moments—spending time with her family, relaxing in the backyard, and watching her husband bring projects to life around their home. It’s these everyday moments that mean the most.

Felisa describes herself as a simple small-town girl who feels deeply grateful for the life she’s built. Guided by faith, family, and real-life experiences, she has found her path and takes pride in the person she has become.
