Harper and Rueben Talasek) bought the Chanslor-Young Funeral Home, located at North Gray and Rancier Ave.This location had been used as a funeral home and residence for many years.During the early years the funeral home also ran an ambulance service serving the Killeen area from the same location. Shortly after the purchase, plans were made to move from the downtown and build a new modern funeral home. This came to fruition in 1972.Two acres of land were purchased on 38th street just north of KilleenHigh School.Construction commenced in 1972.The new building along with a two bedroom home was completed and occupied with a community wide open house in may 1973. We are members of community organizations, veterans groups and local churches, serving on their boards and committees. Harper-Talasek has enjoyed growth from it’s inception; always willing to be the first to step up and be counted when it came to the good of the families they served or the community in which they live, raising their families.

Helen Kim Borkowicz

It is with profound sorrow and sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and loving wife, Helen Kim Borkowicz. She peacefully passed away at the age of 80 in her home in Harker Heights, Texas on Saturday, December 27th, 2025. Helen was born in South Korea, and she was the eldest of three children. She spent her early years in Cheoungju before moving to Uijeongbu to work at a U.S. military base. It was there that she met and fell in love with her husband, Glenn D. Borkowicz. Together, they moved to the Killeen, TX area to raise their family.

Helen lived a life devoted to supporting her family, nurturing her friendships, and demonstrating her faith in our Lord. She initially worked as a waitress and bartender at various establishments, including the Fort Hood Officers Club. She made her mark as a businesswoman, owning several businesses in Killeen, such as The Jade East Club, O Bok Restaurant & Club, Bando Market, Italia Pizza, and Smoothies & Yogurt in the Killeen Mall. For over 50 years, she happily served her customers, many of whom became longtime regulars and friends.

Helen was a dedicated member of her church for over 30 years and, after retiring, she spent much of her time volunteering for church activities and staying active with both the Killeen Korean American Association and the Killeen Sister Cities Osan, Korea Committee. While many knew her as a strong businesswoman, others saw her kind and compassionate heart, always looking for ways to give to those in need, even if they did not ask for help.

Family preceding Helen in death include her parents and sister and brother, Wan Sun Oh and Wan S*k Kim.

Helen is survived by her loving husband, Glenn, their sons Michael (and wife, Patricia) and David (and wife, Julia), brother-in-law Yong S*k Oh, niece Tina Oh (and husband, Oscar), grandsons Lucas and Brayden, grandnephew Daniel, and several other beloved family members. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who knew her.

We invite you to join us in celebrating Helen's life. A funeral service will be held at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen, TX, at 11:00AM on Saturday, January 10, 2026, followed by a burial at Killeen Memorial Park. A reception will be held afterward, with details provided at the funeral.

In addition to floral donations for the funeral service, the family welcomes donations to Helen's family, or her church, New Gate Global Methodist Church.

Bradly Scott Hays

Bradly Scott Hays, age 52, of Killeen, passed from this life Saturday, August 30, 2025. Private family services will be held at a later date.

Bradly was born on December 23, 1972, in Temple, Texas, to David Alan Hays and Lenann Welter. On June 23, 2023, he married the love of his life, Khyara Hinchman.

Bradly was the light to his wife’s darkness, a husband, confidant, counselor, accountant, and even the household nutritional chef. He had a gift for bringing out the best in people, even when they didn’t deserve it. Known as the life of the party, Bradley could turn any gathering into an event to remember.

He especially loved stirring up debates on Facebook, often finding humor in how easily people became upset over small things. To those around him, he taught the importance of forgiveness and “cleaning the slate” when others treated people poorly. Bradley embraced life with the spirit of an Irish rock-and-roll pirate, and he will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Elizabeth and Edward Doering and Emil Massey, as well as his sister, Aubrey Lynn Hays.

Left to cherish his memory are his parents, David Alan Hays and Lenann Welter; his beloved wife, Khyara Hays; his son, William Hays; his daughter, Luma Hays; and his brothers, Stephen Hays and Dante C. Hays.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all their friends and loved ones for the support and kindness shown during this devastating loss.
