We are eager to highlight people who keep Hope grounded and growing through our Rooted in Hope series. 🌳

Today we’re featuring pastor and Boardmember Daniel Ortner of Memorial Baptist Church. Daniel serves through his church and on our board, but he’s also the kind of person who shows up quietly behind the scenes; fixing toilets, building shelves, organizing closets, whatever it takes to keep things running. He consistently makes space in his life to serve, and we are so grateful.

Here’s what we asked him:

Memorial Baptist was supporting Hope long before I arrived. We have had a long history our members serving the community through Hope Pregnancy. In Short, Memorial Baptist is involved with Hope because we both know the importance of Family in God’s Kingdom. We realize the blessing that Life is and we realize the responsibility we have to preserve the innocent. Hope does that and we want to be a part of that.

Hope is a light in a dark world and strives to walk alongside new parents every day. You should want to be a part of what is going on.

Promote, fundraise, and volunteer. I am not sure why every church is not a part of something like Baby Bottle Boomerang. If you are not participating in this you should and if you are participating you should share it with others.

𝓒𝓵𝓲𝓮𝓷𝓽 𝓘𝓶𝓹𝓪𝓬𝓽 𝓢𝓽𝓸𝓻𝔂

Your gifts truly change generations. Sometimes, the stories we walk through with women take months, or even longer, to unfold.

One young mom came to us shortly after moving to the area. She was carrying the weight of losing her only parent, trying to rebuild her life, only to discover she was pregnant. There was no relationship with the baby’s father, and no one close to her knew about the many abortions she’d been through in the past. She was considering another.

By the end of her appointment, she quietly accepted a tiny pair of crochet booties we offered her, saying she might give them to her two girls—one for each.

For a long time after that, we didn’t hear from her. We prayed for her, reached out now and then to remind her that she wasn’t alone, and trusted that God was working in her heart.

Months later, she called back with the words we had been praying to hear:
“I’ve decided to keep the baby. My girls are so excited to have a little brother!”

Her story isn’t over yet. Today, a new life will be welcomed into this world by a mom with newfound strength and two big sisters who are already smitten.

This is why your prayers and generosity matter. Because of you, she now knows she has someone in her corner, ready to walk with her through the joy ahead and, when she’s ready, the pain of her past.

𝑴𝒚𝒕𝒉: ⟡ Pro-life work stops once the baby is born.

𝑻𝒓𝒖𝒕𝒉: ♡ Despite what’s often said about pregnancy resource centers, our support for new moms, dads, and their babies doesn’t end at birth.

We walk alongside families through their baby’s first year, offering classes, baby supplies, and mentorship. And when a need goes beyond what we can provide, we connect them with trusted nonprofits and ministries in our cities who can walk with them even further.

This is the Body of Christ working together so new families are cared for physically, spiritually, and emotionally.

🤔 In our myth series, we will go over common misconceptions about pregnancy centers, how Hope steps in, and how you can be a changemaker to build a culture of life.

𝑴𝒚𝒕𝒉:
“Pregnancy centers just hand out free diapers and baby clothes.”

𝑻𝒓𝒖𝒕𝒉:
Yes, we provide baby clothes, diapers, and formula. But that’s just the starting point.

Material resources open the door to something far deeper: free nondiagnostic ultrasounds, community referrals, parenting classes, fatherhood mentoring, post-abortion healing, and connection to a church community.

In 2024 alone, because of your support:

➡️ 5,981 client visits took place across our centers in Bell and Coryell Counties.
➡️1,824 pregnancy tests and 1,232 ultrasounds gave moms and dads a first look at life.
➡️ 3,374 visits to Hannah’s Closet provided clothing, diapers, and baby essentials for families.
➡️568 parenting classes were attended to equipe moms and dads and build stable homes.
➡️1,351 clients heard the Gospel, and 224 made a profession of faith.

Our mission is simple:

The goal isn’t a one-time handout. It’s to reach women in crisis, reveal the truth about their value and their baby’s life, and redeem what feels broken so families can grow in maturity as their kids grow up.

It is with sadness and gratitude that we share that Floyd “Lurry” Leavelle, a dear friend and faithful servant of the Lord, passed into the presence of Jesus on July 25, 2025.

Lurry faithfully served Hope Pregnancy Centers as both our Medical Director and board member. Dr. Leavelle was one of the first community leaders to respond with life-affirming care in our cities, giving free ultrasounds to at-risk women who came to Hope during the early years. Since then, he has faithfully championed the mission of Hope and God’s love for unborn babies.

Lurry was a man marked by joy, humility, kindness, and a deep love for God. While we grieve his loss, we rejoice knowing Lurry is with Jesus, the Savior he loved and served so faithfully. His legacy will live on in every heartbeat seen on an ultrasound and every life transformed through this ministry. We are grateful for his impact and pray God’s peace over his family.
