According to the apocryphal gospels, Mary’s mother and father brought her to the temple when she was a girl, consecrating their only daughter to the Lord.

We recognize the total gift that Mary made of herself when she headed the words “Blessed are those who hear the Word of God and observe it”.

Tomorrow we celebrate the feast of St. Rose Philippine Duchesne. Born in France, and filled with a heart to spread the love of Christ, she journeyed to the St. Louis area and founded the first Society of the Sacred Heart house in the United States.

After a life spent in service to all whom she encountered, Potawatomi Indians named her Quah-kah-ka-num-ad,
“Woman Who Prays Always”.

Let us be like St. Rose, found always praying. Strengthening those around us through spiritual and corporal works of mercy.
