Acting like you’re okay when you’re not…

Doing All. The. Things. on the good days because you don’t know when you’ll have another one….

Pushing through because slowing down feels harder…

Thinking you can rest later — but “later” never comes…

Sound familiar? I’m sure it does.
I still fall into those traps myself.

But here’s the thing — eventually, your body will make the decision for you.

More pain.
More fatigue.
More brain fog.
Worse sleep.

You’ll slow down because your body won’t give you a choice.

In case you haven’t made the connection yet, fibro bodies don’t respond very well to being pushed past their limits over and over again.

I think this is one reason fibromyalgia can be so frustrating.

The exact things we do to try to stay on top of life — the things that are supposed to be “good” and help us get better — are often the same things making us feel worse. 🤦🏼‍♀️

So… what if resting before you crash wasn’t lazy… but smart?

What if doing less before you crash helped you get MORE done in the long run?

Because resting isn’t doing nothing.
It’s helping your body heal. 💜⁣⁣⁣⁣

“When your nervous system feels safe enough,
your body no longer has to fight so hard to protect you.”
— Dr. Robin Pfaff, Certified Fibromyalgia Coach®

One thing I see all the time with fibromyalgia is that when life feels overwhelming, people get busier.

Goodness, I do it myself! 🫣

You keep going.
You keep pushing.
You keep trying to stay ahead of it.

Because if you slow down, you might actually have to feel how exhausted, overwhelmed, behind, or scared you really are.

And there's this thought that "If I could just get [xyz] done, I won't feel so far behind."

The problem is… fibro bodies usually don’t respond too well to that strategy.

More stress usually means more pain.
More fatigue.
Worse sleep.
And more pressure to keep going anyway.

It’s a terrible cycle.
Plus, there's always more to get done!

Dr. Robin talks about this so beautifully in her new article on The Fibro Compass℠.

She explains why uncertainty affects the nervous system so strongly, why so many people end up stuck in push-through mode, and why creating more steadiness is often what helps most.

If you need practical tips on how you can slow down in a way that feels safe, Dr. Robin has that in her article too. 💜

Creating Steadiness in Times of Uncertainty
by Dr. Robin Pfaff
Certified Fibromyalgia Coach®

Has this spring felt harder than you expected?

You're not imagining it.

This is something that keeps coming up with my clients — and honestly, even for me personally.

Seasonal transitions, weird weather, and let's be honest… everything happening in the world right now can hit fibro bodies hard.

The pain creeps up.
Sleep gets worse.
Your body and emotions feel more reactive.

And somehow you end up doing more and resting less…
even though your body is clearly asking for the opposite.

When our group of Fibro Compass℠ authors met recently, we all told Dr. Robin she needed to get this article out sooner rather than later. 😂

In it, she shares why your nervous system reacts to uncertainty the way it does, why pushing harder right now is probably making things worse (even though it feels like the only option), and a simple practice that can actually help your body begin to calm down.

If you've been living in overdrive and wondering why you feel terrible lately, Dr. Robin gets it.

And she explains what’s happening in a way that will make you feel a whole lot less alone. 💜

One of the hardest parts of fibromyalgia is figuring out what is actually helping.

You try a supplement.
A medication.
A new routine.
A new doctor.
A new treatment.

And after a while, it can all start to blur together.

That is why tracking matters.

Because when you can see your patterns, you can make better decisions.

You can start to notice:
❓What triggers flares
❓What helps your symptoms
❓Where you are overdoing it
❓What habits are helping
❓Whether you are actually improving over time

The Social Good Experiment is a tool designed to help you track your habits, symptoms, and progress so you can stop guessing and start seeing what is really going on.

Because a lot of the time, your body is giving you clues.

You just need a better way to see them. 💜

One of the biggest mistakes people with fibromyalgia make is assuming pacing means “do less.”

It doesn’t.

Pacing is not about shrinking your life.

When done right, it helps you expand your life.

It’s about choosing to spend your energy in a way that helps you get more of your life back.

That is exactly what we talked about in this webinar with Swing Care.

We talked about:
- why pacing is really budgeting your energy
- why “all or nothing” thinking keeps people stuck
- how to stop spending energy on the wrong things
- why joy needs to be part of your treatment plan
- how to recognize the early warning signs that you’re heading into a flare
- why good days are often the days you have to pace the most

You don’t want to go to bed at night spending 100% of your energy.

Because then your body has no energy left to heal itself.

That one shift alone can change everything.

Living well with fibromyalgia isn’t about simply getting through the day.

It is about learning how to build a life you love — and that helps your body feel good. 💜

“You may not be failing.
You may just be trying to solve the wrong problem.”

This week, we’ve been talking about the huge overlap between PCOS + fibromyalgia, and what happens when your symptoms don’t fit neatly into one box.

Women with polycystic o***y syndrome (PCOS) are 4 to 5 times more likely to have fibromyalgia.

And honestly?

This is one of the biggest reasons people stay stuck.

They keep trying harder.

Trying another diet.
Another supplement.
Another medication.
Another appointment.
Another “expert.”

And when nothing changes, they assume the problem is them.

But what if it’s not?

What if you’re doing all the “right” things…
…but for the wrong problem?

It’s easy to assume every symptom is “just fibromyalgia.”

But fatigue, brain fog, weight gain, mood changes, hormonal shifts, and feeling “off” in your body can all point to other missing pieces.

Sometimes there is another missing piece.

Sometimes there is another condition involved.

Sometimes your body is telling you that the next step is different than the one you’ve been trying so hard to do.

If what you’re doing is not working, that does not automatically mean you need to try harder.

It may mean you need to look at the bigger picture…

…and find your missing pieces. 💜

Today, I’m giving you an assignment I give all my students:

What symptoms are you experiencing that may not actually be fibromyalgia?

And what is one next step you could take to explore that?⁣⁣⁣⁣

04/23/2026

Do you believe that there is life beyond your diagnosis?

One of the hardest parts of living with fibromyalgia, PCOS, or any other chronic illness is being told:

“This is just how it is.”
“This is all we can do.”
“You’ll just have to learn to manage it.”

By the time we hear all of that, we end up thinking that life as we know it is over.

But a lack of answers is not the same as a lack of options.

Just because you’ve been told there’s nothing else to try…

doesn’t mean that’s actually true.

It simply means you’ve tried everything you know to try.

(And maybe that your doctor knows too.)

But that doesn’t mean there isn’t more out there.

In this clip from this week’s conversation with nurse, coach, and author Lindsie Vizethann, we talk about why you’re not limited by your diagnosis — and why there’s often more that can be done than most people realize.

You’re not broken.
You’re not a lost cause.

And you’re not stuck with only one path forward. 💜

New on The Fibro Compass℠:
PCOS + Fibromyalgia: When Your Symptoms Don’t Fit One Box

If your symptoms don’t fit neatly into one diagnosis…
or you feel like you’re doing all the “right” things and still not getting better…

there may be a missing piece.

Fatigue.
Brain fog.
Weight gain.
Mood changes.
Feeling off in your body.

It’s easy to assume these symptoms are all “just fibromyalgia.”

But they’re also symptoms of PCOS — polycystic o***y syndrome.

When symptoms overlap like this, it can get really hard to know what’s causing what.

This week, I’m talking with nurse, coach, and author Lindsie Vizethann about why so many women are still struggling.

It’s not because you aren’t trying hard enough.

But because you might be trying to solve the wrong problem.

When you only address one piece of the puzzle, you can work really hard and still not get the results you want.

In this article, we talk about:
- how PCOS and fibromyalgia can overlap
- symptoms that point to another missing piece
- why “eat less and move more” isn’t the answer
- why addressing things in the right order matters when it comes to healing

If your symptoms don’t fit neatly into one box…
that’s not a problem.

It’s information. 💜

PCOS + FIBROMYALGIA: WHEN YOUR SYMPTOMS DON’T FIT ONE BOX
With Lindsie Vizethann

Episode 184 of the Fibromyalgia Podcast® is live now!

If you have PCOS — Polycystic O***y Syndrome — and feel like you’ve tried everything…

…the diets
…the medications
…the advice
…and nothing is working —

this episode might explain why.

For a lot of women with PCOS, it’s not about trying harder…

it’s that you’re only being given part of the picture.

Women with PCOS are 4 to 5 times more likely to have fibromyalgia.

That means if your symptoms don’t fit neatly into one diagnosis…
or something just feels off —
there’s likely more going on.

In this episode, I’m joined by Lindsie Vizethann. We break down:
• what women with PCOS are typically told to do
• why those approaches fall short
• and what your body might actually be asking for instead

If your symptoms don’t fit neatly into one box…
this episode might help you see what’s missing.

A lot of people with fibromyalgia are living like this.

Pushing through.
Hiding symptoms.
Trying to make it make sense.

Wondering if it’s stress…
or something you should be handling better.

And at the same time—
feeling like your body is trying to tell you something…
but not knowing how to actually understand it.

—

This message came from Michelle:

"I started reading your first book, and I'm finding so much wonderful information. For so many years, I have just lived with fibromyalgia—going through ups and downs, hiding the pain, fatigue, brain fog because people just don't understand.

But your podcasts, book, and Fibromyalgia Wellness Style℠ quiz are giving me the freedom to be heard...

I am so thankful to you Tami, for letting our voices be heard. I love this new tool, and am very excited to use it, and all the other resources you provide."

—

There’s a point where things start to make more sense.

Not because you’re trying harder—
but because you’re finally understanding your body — and yourself.

and how that impacts your fibromyalgia,

“Went to the rheumatologist today
and he just casually diagnosed me with fibro.”

This text came from a friend of mine.

Then she said, “They’re going to give me pamphlets.”

And honestly, my first thought?

Well... pamphlets are *great* for managing pain. 🙄

This is exactly what we’ve been talking about all week.

You get a diagnosis.

And then what?

Pamphlets.
Vague advice.
Maybe a follow-up appointment months from now.

And somehow you’re expected
to figure out how to live
with this new diagnosis
all on your own.

What to do.
What actually helps.
What’s worth your energy.
What’s not.

But nobody is there to walk you through
what you really want to know:

How to get your life back.

That’s exactly what a Certified Fibromyalgia Coach® does.

That’s why she reached out to me.

And it’s what you deserve too—

Not more random advice,
but help in understanding what your body needs,
what to focus on first,
and how to actually start making progress.

From someone who knows exactly how you feel—
Because we’ve been there too.

You don’t have to figure this out alone.
And you *can* feel better.
