🐄 In 1960, Understanding the need for quality care in South Monterey County, the famous and award winning "Mashed O" Herd of cattle--over 400 cows, calves, heifers, yearlings and bulls--which had been established by George L. Mee in 1949, was sold by his widow, Myrtle, and their son Tom, with the entire proceeds going toward construction of the hospital.

🗞️ Featured below are two clippings from the Californian. They include a picture of the original sign announcing the building site on Canal Street, a conceptual sketch, and a picture of George L. Mee, for whom hospital was then named.

The Lown Institute, a nationally recognized healthcare think tank, has released its 2025–26 Hospital Index, a national independent ranking of the top-performing hospitals. This index, considered a benchmark in the healthcare industry, evaluates hospitals and recognizes leaders in the movement for socially responsible healthcare.
