PRACTICE UPDATE: 3/19/2020

Regarding Gov. Wolfs latest orders stating "all non-life-sustaining in PA to close..." (link below), please note that it does NOT mean only hospitals may remain open. Included in the news blast is a PDF that cites which businesses are allowed to remain open, and please note that the following may stay open:

1.) PCPs
2.) Dentists
3.) Other Health Care providers, which includes PTs and Chiropractors

WE ARE STILL OPEN, and will continue to be until all health care facilities are directed to close. Those patients who still are in need of care or for those who are on strict care plans are still allowed to make appointments. However, all elective procedures, such as wellness checkups, may need to be rescheduled. If you are unsure if this concerns you, please call the office for clarification.

The Newest Update regarding the Coronavirus and our offices plans moving forward!

While schools and businesses are closing, we wanted to share with you an update regarding the virus in our area.

For Patients:

We wanted to assure you that no patient of this office has been ill or showing any symptoms of the coronavirus. The precautions we mentioned in our previous blast are in full effect. In fact, we have additional hand sanitizer available for patient use.

While the structural chiropractic corrections are helpful in boosting immunity, we want to be proactive. It makes sense to be extra cautious with a situation like this, right? Right! So, if you’ve recently returned from a trip to an area that you know is a hotbed for the virus, or if you have been in contact with someone who has, we urge you to be cautious and get yourself tested at your local health care facility.

If you experience any of these symptoms - fever, coughing, and/or shortness of breath – or if you’ve been in contact with people who show these symptoms, we also urge you to get tested and practice social distancing. We recognize that with the warmer weather, seasonal allergies may come to mind. Regardless, we still urge caution.

As for what to do if you need to cancel an appointment, please know that if you need to cancel within 24 hours of your appointment because you’re feeling ill or you’re worried that you may have contracted the virus, we will absolutely NOT CHARGE you the cancellation fee. Why would we penalize you for doing the right thing?

For Supplements:

You know that we carry high quality supplements and vitamins in stock at the office. Recently, we went of stock with our immune boosting and anti-oxidant products. We will be receiving our next shipment by the beginning of next week. If you wish to purchase these ahead of time, feel free to call us, and we’ll set it aside for you.

Thank you, and stay well!

Reality: YES! True, and so much more!

Myth Monday was a bit delayed so here we have Myth Tuesday!

Myth: Eating Turkey makes you sleepy because it contains tryptophan!

Reality: FALSE. Why you get sleepy isn't because of the tryptophan. Here's why!

We have all heard the holiday tale; Thanksgiving dinner makes us feel so tired because of all the tryptophan in the turkey meat. While it is true that the amino

Today's Myth for Monday: All Supplement Brands are the same!

A very common problem I find when helping patients involves the supplements they take. One of the features of Structural Chiropractic care is that every patient receives a set of complementary recommendations unique to them, which includes supplement and vitamin recommendations. Of course, the more specific, the better! Formulas...dosages...ingredients...they ALL matter based on brand, and no, not all brands are created equal.

Let's use Fish Oils as an example. The response given is usually "Great! I already take Fish Oils!" Ok. Good Start. I usually ask what the brand and dosages are, because I want to make sure the patient is getting exactly what they currently need. Now, I will say that sometimes a patient is taking exactly what I would recommend (in which case, fantastic! No need to spend extra money). However, usually that is not the case. Dosage levels are off (usually not enough), there are inappropriate ingredients, or (in the case of Fish Oils), they are not "molecularly distilled" to ensure highest quality possible and minimize the presence of nasty toxins like mercury. This creates a problem. You think that you're doing what you're supposed to do, but in reality things are just a bit off. That could be the reason why you're not seeing as much of a change as you'd hoped, which often creates the "I took that vitamin. It didn't help me." No one likes to hear that what they've been taking is not helping as much as they'd like, so what's the solution.

You have a couple of options. There are many websites who specialize in rating certain brands, where you can do your own research. One is www.consumerlabs.com, which is a paid site that will give you consumer information. Another is www.labdoor.com, which is free site that ranks many different categories. Personally, I like the latter site, as I feel it gives you the best info at no cost. But what if you don't want to have to go through all that.

At all locations where I see patients, I always carry supplements from brands that I know and trust; brands that I can vouch for that have the highest quality (and if I don't carry it there, I can get it shipped to you). In fact, you can't find these brands in a store, as they're only available through either online markets or physician-only sources. The two brands I trust are "Protocol For Life" for supplements ("Protocol For Life" is to Acura as "NOW" brand is to Honda) and "Klaire Labs" for probiotics. While these supplements are more expensive than the brands you can get at your local pharmacy, you get what you pay for, which is a higher quality product. Now, every time you take the supplement, you can rest assured that you're taking the right thing, and you're getting the most out of your complementary recommendations! That way you can get the most out of your care.

A very common problem I find when helping patients involves the supplements they take. One of the features of Structural Chiropractic care is that every patient

Hi everyone! Dr. Nick here. Normally I don’t do posts like this, but everyone has been so supportive in asking how my wife was doing during her pregnancy and labor. You all have been so kind in your thoughts and words about my daughter. I want to say thank you so very much from the bottom of my heart!

My little baby Isabella will be stopping by today around 230 to say Hi to everyone at the office. If you around, feel free to come by and say hi! 🙂
