A few years ago, the codes doctors use to label diseases was upgraded. To we chiropractic and medical neuarologist's satisfaction, many of the symptoms that accompany concussions, migraines and severe headaches, such as abdominal complaints like nausea (G43.DO), visual changes causing double-vision and eye pain (G43.B) and mental-state changes of mental fatigue while concentrating and personality changes not experienced prior (R41.9), were included in the new codes. These reevised codes were more inclusive and they, in some respects, justified our long-time recognition of the complications of concussion(SO6. ...), migraines (G43. ...) and headaches.
The list below shows just a few of the updated conditions that were not well understood not long ago and ones seen in my patient population.
Our understanding of concussions and other head-origin complaints is growing.

This research study shows that the part of the nervous system that controls digestion is disrupted for those with traumatic chronic headaches (PPTH) MORE than what has long been understood as digestion disruption for those with migraines and traumatic brain injuries (TBI).

CONCLUSIONS: Symptoms of autonomic dysfunction were greatest among those with PPTH compared to migraine and healthy controls. Among individuals with PPTH, number of lifetime TBIs was associated with greater symptoms of autonomic dysfunction, while greater headache burden was associated with higher vasomotor domain autonomic dysfunction subscores, potentially indicating that PPTH patients with higher disease burden have an increased risk for having autonomic dysfunction. Symptoms of autonomic dysfunction should be ascertained during the clinical management of patients with PPTH and might be a characteristic that helps differentiate PPTH from migraine.

This study suggests that eye-movement therapy, like the ones I render to post-concussion syndrome patients (as stated in the 'body' of the research brief), are effective to measure the outcome of various concussion therapies.

CONCLUSIONS: Oculomotor dysfunction is related to the symptom dimensions of mental health disorders that may be treated with physical rehabilitation modalities. We feel it reasonable to suggest that psychiatrists and others involved in the treatment of mental health disorders quantify eye movements and use them as biomarkers in the evaluation of the outcomes of varied therapies.

There are misconceptions about spinal manipulation to the neck and its dangers, namely, it causing stroke. This research article, although technical and written for doctors and researchers, in the summarized first-few paragraphs at the beginning, tell a completely different story.

The chances of suffering a stroke from a cervical manipulation are LESS than visiting your family doctor. In fact, while waiting in a family doctor's waiting room for headaches and neck pain, the chances of suffering a stroke are GREATER than receiving a cervical manipulation.

Our Story

Being an expert in concussion, migraine and headache, Dr Saracino was asked to speak to 500 attorneys at the 2019 Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Annual Workers Compensation Conference. The lecture video and a one-hour AM Philadelphia radio station interview podcast on concussion, are found at icons on the homepage of www.DrSaracino.com labelled “Concussion 1” and “Concussion 2” respectively.

Chiropractic has grown in popularity due to its high patient approval rating, effectiveness and safety. Spinal manipulation combined with physical therapy, which he renders, has been scientifically-proven to be the most effective low back pain therapy for conditions not requiring surgery. Chiropractic Neurology is an exclusive sub-specialty within chiropractic which treats (at website see two minute video) - migraine, (at website see video excerpt on concussion) neck pain, low back pain AND neurologic disorders such as pain, tingling and numbness in the arms and legs, car accident, work-related and slip-and-fall injuries. Chiropractic Neurology is an exclusive sub-specialty within chiropractic. A rigorous three years of additional training and Board examination in the functions of the brain and nervous system (similar to those which a medical neurologist undergoes) better enable us to diagnosis and treat many conditions such as head pain, migraine, cluster and tension headaches; neurologic disorders such as Bells Palsy (facial paralysis), Meniere's Disease (ringing in the ear), dizziness, stroke, tingling and numbness in the arms and legs; neck, shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand pain; scoliosis, mid-back and digestive disorders; low back, hip, knee, ankle and foot pain.
