Male Suspect Violently Assaults Two Employees of a Massage Business - Suspect Booked for Attempted Murder
A 48-year-old Edmonds man was arrested for two counts of Attempted Murder in the 1st degree and two counts of Unlawful Imprisonment after a violent assault of two employees of an Edmonds massage business. Multiple witnesses pointed responding officers in the direction of the suspect, who had fled on foot, and he was taken into custody at a nearby business parking lot without incident. The suspect was later booked into the Snohomish County Jail.
The incident began just on Sunday, September 7th, before 5:45 PM, at Eva Spa Massage, 9726 Edmonds Way. The suspect approached the business door, where one of the victims recognized him as a previous customer. Video evidence showed that the suspect barged into the business and locked the door behind him while one victim retreated away from the entrance. The suspect began to assault her as she retreated into a room where the second victim was working with a customer. The suspect continued the attack, now against both victims, including using a metal coat rack to strike them. The customer told detectives that he heard the suspect make statements indicating that this was a targeted attack. The motive for the attack is still under active investigation. The male customer was not injured.
Both victims were able to escape outside, but the suspect followed, continuing to assault them before fleeing after realizing 911 had been called. Responding officers found both victims unconscious and crime scene evidence of a violent assault. Witnesses provided officers with information that the suspect had fled across the street in the parking lot of another business complex. Officers found the suspect a short time later, and he was taken into custody without incident. However, while being handcuffed, the suspect made unsolicited statements that he was upset that he did not kill the victims. He was also wearing gloves that had had blood dripping from them.
Both victims were transported to area hospitals for further treatment after suffering multiple lacerations and other significant injuries to the face and head from the attack. Edmonds Police detectives responded to assist with the investigation and processing of the crime scene. This remains an active and ongoing incident. Additional information will be released as the investigation allows.
