🦋🦋 The Butterfly Effect! 🦋🦋

King groundkeepers have been preserving the milkweed on campus to help nourish the lives of some amazing monarch butterflies, and in turn, they are nourishing our members by letting them watch the lifecycle of these beauties and then releasing them. This position schedules members' medical, diagnostic, and treatment appointments and arranges transportation to/from their appointments.

This month we have the pleasure of highlighting our dear colleague, Wendy! Wendy has been a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King for the last eight years but has worked in various positions for the home for 30 years in August.

It’s no surprise Wendy’s favorite part of the job is the variety. She states, “Nothing is the same day to day. I love the challenges and working with the Veterans and the staff. I love helping to meet the mental health needs of the veterans.”

Her advice for new employees is open up and get to know your colleagues. She says, “Get to know a personal fact about everyone you meet so that you can establish a connection with them. The facility is large and can be overwhelming, but it is a wonderful place to work. There is not one day that I am not happy to come to work.”

In Wendy’s leisure time, she spends time with her husband and their third rescued dog, walking and hiking in the woods.

Last week, our Members enjoyed travelling just down the road to the Iola Car Show on July 10th and 11th. A huge thank you to the organizers and volunteers from the Iola Car Show who went above and beyond for the veterans with golf cart tours, gifts, and meet & greets. It was a wonderful time for our members!
