Just another poopie post brought to you by your favorite health department. 😜

But seriously though, NOROVIRUS, is no joke.

It's the “stomach bug” that spreads fast and hits hard, and it only takes a tiny amount to make someone sick.

Symptoms include: sudden vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, stomach cramps, fever, headache, body aches.

It starts 12–48 hours after exposure and can last up to three days.

Here’s why it spreads so easily*:
💩Norovirus takes fewer than 100 virus particles to infect you.
💩You’re contagious from the moment you feel sick until at least 2–3 days after
you feel better.

How it spreads:
💩 Contaminated food or drinks
💩 Touching surfaces then your mouth
💩 Close contact with someone who’s sick (a few examples include):
o Changing a sick baby’s diaper without thoroughly washing your hands
afterward.
o Not bathing the child or washing contaminated clothing and linens after
changing them.
o Cleaning up vomit or diarrhea without proper disinfection

Noro clings to surfaces and can live a long time if not properly cleaned.
💩Hard surfaces (counters, doorknobs, phones): days to weeks
💩Fabrics (clothing, bedding, carpet): several days
💩It can still spread even after the surface “looks clean”

Hand sanitizer doesn’t actually stop the stomach bug.

When it comes to norovirus, some common habits can give a false sense of security.

MYTHS (what doesn’t work):
❌ Alcohol-based sanitizers
❌ Quick rinses with water
❌ Regular household cleaners or wipes

FACTS (what does work):
✅Washing hands with soap + water (20 seconds)
✅Cleaning surfaces with bleach-based disinfectants
✅Staying home when sick

Norovirus is tough, it can stick around on surfaces and spread easily, especially in schools, daycares, and shared spaces.

Bottom line: Soap and water beats sanitizer for this one.
