It has come to our attention social media posts have circulated this week regarding whooping cough in the area. Yes, we are aware there are illnesses, and we have been working with everyone affected who needs to exercise awareness.

Pertussis is alive and well…not just here but in multiple Kansas counties. Other respiratory infections are going around as well-tis the season! The best things we can do is to make sure we do all we can do to stay healthy:
• Get adequate sleep;
• Try to eat a balanced diet which includes plenty of fruits and vegetables...and get plenty of water;
• Make sure all immunizations are up to date, and…
• (probably the easiest one to do on this list) is to keep those hands clean. This means using soap and water for at least 20 seconds or at least using some hand sanitizer if no soap and water is around.

Toothpicks really aren’t necessary (we love this classic public health promotion from the 1960s!), but it goes to show basic handwashing is timeless advice.
