Hypothyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormones. These thyroid hormones regulate the body’s metabolism. A decrease in these hormones can lead to a slow metabolism. The symptoms of hypothyroidism include but are not limited to weight gain, constipation, decreased sweating, fatigue, weakness, and cold intolerance. Hypothyroidism can be treated with thyroid hormone replacement.

Pharmaceutical compounding is the art and science of preparing personalized medication for patients with unique needs. The process of compounding medication is supervised by a licensed pharmacist. There are many reasons a patient would need compounded medication. These include but are not limited to:

1) Customized ingredients

Hospice, geriatric, pediatric, and veterinary patients often have unique needs, and compounding can provide specific solutions for their medication needs.

The art of compounding also allows pharmacists to alter ingredients if a patient is lactose intolerant, glucose-intolerant, or allergic to an unnecessary dye in the commercial drug.
