What is FEES???

FEES, or the Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing, is a method to evaluate swallow function. A Speech-Language Pathologist passes an endoscope through the nose and throat to view the anatomy of the pharynx and larynx. Patients being scoped are asked to eat and drink a variety of food and liquids to assess the integrity of swallowing.

The results of FEES helps Speech-Language Pathologists diagnose swallowing disorders and develop plans for therapy. FEES findings may also result in referrals to other medical professionals such as Ear, Nose, and Throat physicians.
