Paul E. Monroe

Paul E. Monroe 80, of Mt. Carmel went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 6, 2026. He was born in Kingsport to the late Charles and Aurora Monroe. Paul served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Ft. Jackson as well as Ft. Bragg. He worked for Eastman Chemical Company for 34 years before his retirement in 1999 and later worked for Baysmont for 18 years. Paul served his community as an EMT in the Mt. Carmel Volunteer Fire Department as well as the Church Hill Rescue Squad. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Don, Kelly, and Harold Monroe; sister, Shirley Greear;

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, June Monroe; daughter, Lynn Monroe; son, Steven Monroe; granddaughter, Kylie Monroe; sister, Margaret Nichols; along with several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

The family will receive friends from 11am to 1pm on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Church Hill. A funeral service will follow with Rev. Jack Edwards officiating.

A graveside service will follow at Church Hill Memory Gardens.

Robert Dean "Hale" Laws

Robert Dean “Hale” Laws, 84 of Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 6, 2026. He was born on January 25, 1942, to the late Geneva Sauls and Herman Hale. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Anna “Leota” Ferguson Laws; son, Ronnie Laws; sister, Anna Ruth Hale; and his brothers, Harse and Roy Lee Laws.

Left to mourn his loss are his daughter, Sharon Laws Gilreath of Kingsport; son, Tony Laws and wife Teresa of Church Hill; step-son, Johnny Copas and wife Marti of Kingsport; brother, Bennie Hale and wife Sharon of Blountville; son-in-law, Andy Gilreath; grandsons, Drew Gilreath of Kingsport, Anthony Laws and wife Taylor of Church Hill, Hunter Laws and wife Amber of Church Hill; great-grandsons, Weston, Gunner, and Rylan Laws; along with a special friend, Curtis Austin.

The family will receive friends from 5 pm to 7 pm on Monday, May 11, 2026, at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Kingsport. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Kevin Rose officiating.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 pm on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Drew Gilreath, Anthony Laws, Hunter Laws, Andy Gilreath, Curtis Austin, and Jason Hammonds. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 12:15 pm to go in procession.

A special thanks goes to the Borden Mill families for watching out for him and to Ballad Hospice House for their phenomenal care.

Joyce Marie Christian

Joyce Christian, age 75, of Church Hill, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 30, 2026. Joyce was born in Hawkins County, TN, to Neal Byington and Paralee Byington-Tate on September 29, 1950. She enjoyed fishing and spending time on the beach. Joyce was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister, and will be missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son Tommy Richard Mann Jr.; brothers Earl, James, Roy, and M.C. Byington.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter Angela (Robert) Maness; son Lynn (Jamie) Ward; grandchildren Krista (Alex Cowie) Schronce, Joshua Schronce, Brock Ward, and Daniel Ward; great-grandchildren AJ and Aiden Cowie; brothers Harold (Misty) Byington, Willie Byington, and Neal (Sue) Byington; sisters Ruth Maine, Barabara (Paul) Morelock, Gladys Fletcher; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Bethel Church Cemetery on Stanley Valley Road with Pastor Wayne Morelock officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 9:50 am.

Mary Kate Harrell Jennings, 98, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 1, 2026. She was born in Surgoinsville, TN to the late James and Mary Louvenia Harrell. Mary Kate was a devoted member Orebank Missionary Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Kenneth Jennings; son, Kenneth “Mike” Jennings; sisters, Thelma Gates, Elizabeth Kilday, and Dana Harrell; brother, James Harrell.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Frances Jennings; along with several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3pm on Monday, May 4, 2026, at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Pastor David Foster and Pastor Travis McKee officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 2:50pm.

Ivey Kate Robinson

Ivey Kate Robinson was cradled up into the arms of Jesus on April 23, 2026. Ivey was born on April 23, 2026, in Johnson City, TN to Benjamin and Sophie Robinson. Even though her time here was short, the love that her parents, her big brother, and family members have for her will last for an eternity.

Ivey was preceded in death by her great grandfather, W. Blythe Robinson; great grandfather, Jerome P. Yarnell; great grandmother, Donna G. Yarnell; great grandfather, Thomas A. Caldwell; and one uncle, Joshua Y. Robinson. Those left to cherish her memory are her parents, Benjamin and Sophie Robinson; big brother, Wade Robinson; paternal grandparents, Jonathan and Holly Robinson; maternal grandparents, David and Savanna Cable; great grandparents, Richard and Connie Roberson, Charles and Janice Cable, and Rebecca Robinson; three uncles, Easton Cable, Will Cable, and Aaron Robinson; one aunt, Rebekah Robinson; and many loving family members.

Betty "Jean" George

Betty “Jean” George, 89 of Kingsport passed away peacefully on April 29th after years of declining health. Jean was born in the back of a store in Bean Station, Tennessee, the daughter of Charlie and Beaulah (Lovin) Livesay. She grew up in Kingsport, graduated from Lynn View High School and then went to work at Eastman. Jean married Bill George on August 24, 1956 and she worked a variety of Civil Service Jobs on Air Force bases while he was serving in the Military. She loved bowling, playing bridge and just being around people, she never met a stranger. Jean was a member of Colonial Heights United Methodist Church.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Ben and Daton Livesay and sisters Delphia Stiner and Bernece Rhoten.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Bill George; daughter, Jeri George; son, Darby George and daughter-in-law Christy; granddaughters, Amber Patterson and Hanna George; grandson, Bo George; great grandsons, Lake and Sean Clendenin and Jackson Cody; along with several nieces and nephews.

Special thanks go to Gentiva Hospice and to her neighbor Carmen Bungalong for the loving care they provided.

The family will receive friends at Carter Trent Funeral Home in downtown Kingsport on Friday, May 1st from 5-7pm. A funeral service will follow with Rev. Chris Brown officiating.

Entombment will be Monday, May 4th at 11am in Mausoleum #3 at East Lawn Memorial Park. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50am.
