“At his worst moment, the prodigal still had hope because of his father. He ran home to his father!

Maybe you feel like the man in this picture. You feel like you've made a mess of your life, and you've hit rock bottom. We've all heard the phrase "you made your bed, you can lie in it" meaning you are where you are by your own choices, so deal with your own consequences. Basically it is telling someone to suffer because of their mistakes.

I have good news! David said in Psalm 139:8
Even if we make our bed in hell, God is there!

You might feel like you are living in hell right now! Suffering because of your own choices! But, even where you are right now, God is there! If God is there, hope is there!

You can turn to God! Get up! Run to the Father! He is waiting for your return!”

River’s Story • Day 163 • March 20, 2024

I want to begin today with some praise for King Jesus!!!

As many of you know, our son River was hospitalized HUS October-December of 2023.

This text message thread (please look at both photos to read the entire thing) was between Michael Hefflin and I on October 10th, the first night of our journey with RiverOfLife being hospitalized.

This was before we knew he had HUS.

This was before we knew he would spend 44 days hospitalized.

Oh how little we knew.

But God went before us.

He prepared the way.

He prepared our hearts and minds.

We worshipped and praised Him from the beginning.

Looking back on this 6 months later just shows the depths of God’s love for His children.

He is so so good!!!!

We planned on making an announcement today about where our stories are taking us. The enemy must be intimidated. Glory to Jesus for that! We are heading to with River and Josiah. They both have symptoms of RSV. We still praise the Lord! He will continue to get the glory!

One of the things River LOVED to do before getting sick was climb up on the back of the couch and slide down the cushions. We would always tell him “no no River”. He has been wanting so badly to do this again. Well, last night was the night! A lot of people will not agree with us letting him do this. But when your arms and legs were never supposed to respond to touch, let alone work on their own again, there are just some things you let slide!

River’s Story • Day 157 • March 14, 2024

Today is ᗯOᖇᒪᗪ KIᗪᑎEY ᗪᗩY

𝐇𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐥𝐲𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐬𝐲𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐞 (HUS) causes kidney failure which is what River developed from the E. coli infection he contracted from his brother going on a field trip to the Appalachian Fairgrounds.

Prior to October 10th 2023 we would have passed by this day never giving much thought to it being World Kidney Day. Today we celebrate it because it gives us an opportunity to tell a story. We can tell River’s story. One full of miracles. Miracles and lots of people praying.

Several weeks ago we received an invite to visit some ladies who, like many of you, prayed for River from the very beginning. These ladies pictured here have been wearing their River of Life shirts every Thursday for River (side note: today was too hot for the long sleeve shirts, so we are going to order some short sleeve ones for the summer - be on the lookout for them!) One of the things they mentioned being blessed by the most was seeing that God still does miracles.

So if you or a family member are also recognizing World Kidney Day, we are here to say…

Don’t give up.
Keep trusting God.
Or start trusting God.
He still does miracles.

Babies are all changed and dressed.

River is at physical therapy with Daddy.

Josiah is napping.

Elijah and I have been making pancakes. He loves helping in the kitchen. We usually find ourselves baking something together a few times per week.

When he asks in the cutest 3 yr old voice “Can we make something together mama?”

My to-do list says “We don’t have time. I need to do 100 pages of paperwork, get dinner in the crockpot, build a website, tackle 3 dishwasher loads of dishes, put away 17 loads of clean laundry, and vacuum crushed goldfish crackers out of the carpet from 3 days ago.” 😂

But I fight my flesh and Holy Spirit within me helps “Let’s make time!”

I heard someone say, “If we include our children, it might slow us down, but that may be the point.”

Also, this boy is working hard on potty training and mama is SO thankful. Ready to go from 3 in diapers down to 2!
