Our Story

Associated Orthopaedics of Kingsport started as the singular vision of Dr. Merritt Shobe, Dr. Robert Strang Sr., and Dr. Joseph Maloy in 1953 with the founding principle of making high-quality patient care available to those in need. Originally located at 120 West Ravine Road, Associated Orthopaedics of Kingsport rapidly developed into the most trusted source for orthopaedic care in the Tri-Cities region.

Over our 64 year history the group has been fortunate to be home to some of the greatest orthopaedic surgeons in Tennessee including Dr. Robert Strang Jr., Dr. Mark Griffith, Dr. Daniel Klinar, Dr. Howard Mize and Dr. James ‘Pete’ Phillips. The integrity and passion that these individuals wove into the core of the fabric of Associated Orthopaedics continues to radiate throughout the practice on a daily basis.

So what makes us different? That’s simple! We ALWAYS put you first. That singular goal has allowed our group to consistently grow over the past 60+ years. To us, you’re not just a patient; you are our neighbors, our friends and our family. Our dedication is more than just skin deep. Many of our providers are local products who have deep roots right here in the Tri-Cities area.
