I have been in the healthcare field for the past 12 years. I started my journey in Respiratory Therapy and loved every minute of it. I saw what a toll it takes on the bodies of the nurses, doctors, and all of the supportive staff, right down to housekeeping. It is a tough job! One minute you will see a life begin and the next have one taken away. I was always the one to say “Here, let me rub your shoulders” or just scratch someones back to give them a moment to just be themselves. You could see the stress drain away for a moment before they pulled it back together to finish their shift. I eventually left Respiratory and joined the Neurodiagnostic team where I became an EEG technician. I had the privilege to work with several wonderful doctors and their staff. I loved every minute of it but something was missing. I really aggravated my husband from the beginning that I wanted to go to massage school but the timing was never right. He finally looked at me and said “Just go do it! There will never be the right time.” So with his love and support, I started my massage journey in 2014. I never looked back after that and here I am now. I was blessed to go full time in January 2018.
I have been asked several times why I wanted to do massage and I told them my story that you just read but when I actually sat down to think about it I knew that was not where it started. It started when I was in the fourth grade. Why there? You may ask. That is the year that I broke my right arm. What does that have to do with it? A lot actually. When I finally got that horrible cast off, it didn’t feel good at all. I had to wear a brace during the day and it would ache at the end of the day. So every evening when my daddy got home he would tell me to take the brace off. He would sit there and rub every where that brace was. It would relieve the pain in my arm and made it feel better. When I look back on this now, I realize how much that really did help the muscles and underlying structures. So, with that being said, I have to say that my Dad is where I found my love of massage. Little did he know that the small act of kindness to me would mold me and mold my future.
I am a mother of two (Three if you count my husband!) that loves to help people find relief of pain and loves to learn more techniques to make it easier on my clients and myself. I hope you give me the chance to help you as well.
Sincerely, Andrea :)
