A Reiki 1 Certification Workshop tailored for breast cancer PATIENTS and their CARETAKERS could be a deeply healing experience, offering gentle techniques to support emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being during treatment and recovery. Reiki is a non-invasive energy healing modality, known to reduce stress, promote relaxation, and potentially relieve some treatment-related discomfort.

1. Introduction to Reiki and Energy Healing
• Overview of Reiki: What it is, its origins, and how it works.
• Energy Basics: Understanding the concept of life energy and its impact on well-being.
• Safety: Emphasizing that Reiki is safe to use alongside medical treatments without replacing them.

2. Reiki Level 1 Attunement
• What is Attunement?: Explanation of how the Reiki Master will facilitate the flow of healing energy in each participant.
• Attunement Ceremony: This process will allow participants to begin accessing Reiki energy themselves for self-healing.

3. Self-Reiki Techniques
• Basic Hand Positions: Learning to apply Reiki to oneself, focusing on areas commonly affected by breast cancer and treatment.
• Focus on Relaxation and Pain Relief: Techniques that target relaxation, stress relief, and potential pain relief.

4. Reiki for Emotional Healing
• Meditation and Mindfulness: Using Reiki to calm the mind and manage emotional stress.
• Self-Empowerment: Encouraging participants to connect with their inner strength and resilience.

5. Practice and Sharing Circle

Camp Lightheart for Children of Breast Cancer Survivors
July 13 to July 16 - Omega Institute, Rhinebeck, NY

CAMP LIGHTHEART was started by Breast Cancer Options because we realized that there are few services for children who have a parent diagnosed with breast cancer or have lost a parent to the disease. Camp is a unique and special place for children. This free program features recreation, relaxation and fun as well as support for children whose families are experiencing the stress of illness.

Campers are from ages 8-15 years old and our “senior” staff is assisted by “junior” staff – former campers who love Camp Lightheart and choose to return to mentor younger kids. The campers are in a safe, nurturing, fun-loving environment. Because all of the children have the common bond of a parent diagnosed with breast cancer, this lessens their feelings of isolation, or of “feeling different”. The camp experience is something very special…something that is about them and for them. Through deep listening and understanding as well as a shared fun, each child develop strategies for coping.
