Hey y'all! Logan here. My clinical nutrition disorders professor said this today and I thought it was profound enough to start a new "post series" of sorts where I share a little bit from the classroom with you all. Don't worry, I'm not gonna get into the nitty-gritty—instead, here's a 10,000 foot flyover.

We were discussing the risk factors for developing chronic inflammation, and one of those risk factors (among other things like smoking and obesity) was age. The question that spurred this remark from my professor is this: is developing chronic health issues a consequence of "wearing out normally?" Or is it rather a consequence of cumulatively loading the body with an unchecked lifetime of microtraumas and toxins?

Food for thought. :)

Hey y'all! Logan here :)

It's been a minute since I've updated you all, so here's the rundown on where I've been and where I'm at now!

I just wrapped up quarter 8 out of 14 two weeks ago and I am pleased to report I passed everything. There were a few things about last quarter that made it especially challenging (but fun!):
- I entered student clinic and was responsible (under direct supervision!) for the chiropractic care of a student patient for 12 weeks.
- I participated in a spinal screening event at a local 5K race (talking to strangers about chiropractic is fun)
- I moved out of university-provided student housing for the first time since starting undergrad. Having my own space feels so so good.
- after a week of lab finals, all eleven lecture final exams were crammed into three days to let us out a day early for break. It was crazy. It was scary. But it's done now. (I'm attempting to forget about those three days.)

Lots of crazy stuff. Lots to be thankful for. I am eighteen months away from walking that platform. I can almost taste it.

Coming up next quarter:
- more student clinic visits and more new student patients (I need to get at least 30 more adjustments under my belt before they put me in REAL clinic... at which point I'll need 200 more before I can graduate).
- Part II National Board prep seminars (I take Part II in October!)
- a courseload that's pushing 30 credit hours... (I'm thinking I'm gonna cut it back).
- I really would like to do some more epic hikes. I haven't been able to do as many as I would like and I want to explore as much of Georgia as I possibly can before graduating. It is a very pretty state.

There's the rundown. 534 days until I walk that platform. Stay adjusted everyone!

"Imagine for a moment that you are sitting on an iceberg. Now imagine that you are oblivious to this fact. As you sit there you begin to notice something: Your body is shaking and your hands and feet are turning blue. For good reason you become very concerned, 'What’s wrong with me?' you ask."

There is a lot of talk these days about having a healthy gut. And for good reason. The gut or gastrointestinal (GI) tract plays a crucial role in your overall health and well-being. It is responsible for approximately 80% of your immune system. Additionally, it is responsible for 95% of your serotonin, “the happy chemical.” Without a healthy gut, you’re vulnerable to a myriad of diseases. So, who can you turn to for help maintaining your healthy gut? While the obvious (and great!) answer might be "the nutritionist", have you ever considered that your GI tract is supplied by... the nervous system? Neurology and nutrition go hand-in-hand, which is why looking after both must be incorporated into a healthy lifestyle.

"Baby season is here! The fact is, more babies are born during summer than any other time of the year. It’s also a fact that, according to the Journal of the American Medical Association, “the number of children visiting Doctors of Chiropractic is substantial and is increasing.” There’s a reason for that. As many parents know, pediatric chiropractic care is a safe and effective way to keep your baby healthy today and as they grow!

Hey y'all! (Logan here)
I know it's the weekend, but fortunately this is my last assignment (just catching up from falling behind a bit earlier this week). I realized I haven't updated you all in a minute!

Eighth quarter is flying by. I'm already through midterms, most of my lab sessions, and there was even a weekend seminar thrown in there too for good measure. On top of all of the classes... I'm also performing my first adjustments in student clinic where I am allowed to work on my classmates.

A few things this quarter that I've learned, in no particular order:
-(from human development) by six months of age, a baby should be able to recognize a familiar face from a stranger.
-(from genitourinary diagnosis) your kidneys filter 100 gallons of fluid per day. Thankfully—for obvious reasons—nearly all of that is reabsorbed.
-(from gastroenterological diagnosis) pain in the right shoulder could be referred from the gallbladder having a problem
-(from clinical toxicology) women use roughly 170 different chemicals per day on their bodies... tracking down an allergy to one of those is a nightmare
-(from skeletal radiology D) a wrist fracture—specifically, the triquetrum for you anatomy nerds—on x-ray is indicated by the "pooping duck sign" (yes that's a real thing. Look it up).
-(from upper extremity adjusting) if your back molars don't touch when you bite down, you might not need dental work... you just need your jaw adjusted
-(from vertebral subluxation theories) adjusting your atlas (top of the spine) is theorized to impact the tracts in the spinal cord responsible for pain and motor function in the low back.... which is why it's so important to check the WHOLE spine for subluxations—not just "where it hurts"

Anyway. I gotta get back to studying toxicology. 573 days until I walk that platform. Stay adjusted everyone!
