Reflections of Life

Luttie Bell Swindler, 80, of Kingstree, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on December 11, 2025, surrounded by the love if her family.

Born on September 2, 1945, in Kingstree, South Carolina, to the late Howard and Eula Edwards, Luttie was raised in a close-knit family grounded in faith, strength, and perseverance. She graduated from St. Mark High School, Class of 1964. After high school, she moved to Greensboro, North Carolina, where she later married the love of her life. Thaddeus Swindler Jr. on December 12, 1968. Their union was blessed with nearly six decades of love, devotion and partnership,

A talented seamstress and devoted homemaker, Luttie was known for her feisty spirit and honesty. She was never afraid to speak her mind, yet her words were always rooted in love. She might fuss, but if she loved you, she had you-no questions asked. Her strength, loyalty, and fierce support shaped generations of her family.

Her faith was deeply important to her, guiding her life and sustaining her through every season. It is this faith that brings comfort to her family now, knowing that she has been welcomed home safely in the arms of her Lord.

She leaves her memory to be cherished by her devoted husband, Thaddeus Swindler Jr., and their children: Thaddeus Swindler III of Asheboro, NC; Michelle Swindler of Kingstree, SC; and Ashley Swindler-Mitchell (Robert) of Stonecrest, GA.

She is survived by her grandchildren: Ebony Swindler (Damien) of Charleston, SC; Jovan Swindler of Forest Park, GA; Chelsea Mitchell of Stonecrest, GA; and Tevin Hammond of Greensboro, NC.

She is also lovingly remembered by her great-grandchildren: Kaden Gillespie and Avery Gillespie, both of Charleston, SC, and Octavia Swindler of Forest Park, GA.

She is further survived by siblings: Elizabeth Fleming (Lee), Joretta Nowlin (Dan), Howard Edwards (Joyce), Asalee Zellars, and Lula Mae Green, both of Charleston, SC, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved her dearly.

James Alfred Thomas departed his earthly life on Sunday, December 7, 2025, in San Francisco, California. He was born to the late John and Mabel Thomas on January 8, 1953, in Lake City, SC.
At an early age he joined North Kingstree Baptist Church. James was a graduate of Kingstree High School, Class of 1971. James grew up with his siblings in Kingstree, SC.
After graduation, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. After leaving service, he made his home in San Francisco where he continued to work hard and dedicate his life to his family. He often remained in touch with his friends and family back home and never missed the opportunity to reunite with family and friends.
His career began as a manager with Moscone Center, where he was employed until he retired.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Loretta Thomas.
Those left to cherish his memories are his loving and devoted wife, Chong, of the home; his children, Nikita McCoy of Fayetteville, NC, Malissa Thomas, Michael Thomas, and Christine Thomas all of San Francisco, CA; four grandchildren,
Dequadre, Malachai, Zaavan and Caleb; three brothers, Rev. John P. (Rev. Pernerva) Thomas and Harold Thomas both of Kingstree, SC and Bennie L. (Sarah) Thomas of East Hartford, CT; one sister, Mattie Madison of Kingstree, SC; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other beloved members of his extended family and dear friends. His memories will also be cherished by a special friend, Rev. James Johnson.
