According to the CDC, 37.3 million people have diabetes, and whenever it’s uncontrolled, it could lead to severe complications such as retinopathy (eye issues), neuropathy (nerve issues), and nephropathy (kidney issues). For this surge challenge, we’ve interviewed a patient with access to a glucometer to monitor their blood glucose levels for a week, as shown in the picture. Monitoring your blood sugar is a great way to physically see how well you manage your diabetes and it’s quickly done at home. Nowadays, with the advanced technology, there are self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) meters like Freestyle Libra and Dexcom that continuously measure your blood sugar levels without having to prick yourself multiple times a day.
