When a winter storm is approaching, stress and anxiety often rise with it.
The uncertainty. The “what ifs.” The urge to stay on high alert.
If you’re feeling tense right now, take a breath — you’re not alone.
A few gentle reminders during storm-related stress:
• Prepare what you can — then pause.
Taking reasonable steps helps, but constant monitoring increases anxiety.
• Limit doom-scrolling.
Check updates at set times instead of all day.
• Ground your body.
Warm drinks, slow breathing, cozy layers, and familiar routines help signal safety to your nervous system.
• Focus on what’s in your control today.
Right now. This moment. This breath.
• Offer yourself compassion.
Feeling anxious doesn’t mean you’re weak — it means you’re human.
Anxiety often shows up when we’re trying to protect ourselves.
The goal isn’t to eliminate it — it’s to gently remind your body that you are safe right now.
Be kind to yourself as the weather changes.
Calm can exist even when conditions outside feel uncertain.
