Coronavirus Information and Resources

With all of the reporting by local and national public health organizations, and all major media outlets, it would be very unlikely to NOT have heard about Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), and its health impacts on individuals in more than 45 countries. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, COVID-19 is a respiratory illness that may include fever, cough and shortness of breath, and range from very mild to more severe illness.

In addition to the CDC, we encourage readers to refer to other credible sources of information, such as the NJ Department of Health, and of course the World Health Organization. Specific guidance for older adults and/or people with disabilities, should there be any, will also be available on the Administration for Community Living’s Coronavirus Disease 2019 website.

At this time, CDC recommends that everyone - regardless of age or disabilities - take the same precautions to avoid illness. Here are simple things you can do to help keep yourself and others healthy!

Wear a mask. The mask can be store-bought, made out of a t-shirt, or bandana. There are several tutorials about how to make masks on the internet
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing; going to the bathroom; and before eating or preparing food
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
Avoid close contact with people who are sick
Stay home when you are sick
Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipes

Here are more specific resources and information about hand washing from the CDC’s handwashing website. People who think they may have been exposed to COVID-19 should contact their healthcare provider immediately!

Our Story

Family Care of New Jersey began in memory of my Aunt Maria. Aunt Maria had a brain aneurysm at 16. She was completely paralyzed and only had use of one hand. She was in the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) system and attended the 1st Cerebral Palsy Center of Belleville for 54 years. Maria had a fulfilled life. She lived independently, worked, attended social activities, vacationed and was always surrounded by friends and family. Here at Family Care of New Jersey we believe that with the right support coordination agency everyone can have a prosperous life. With the many years of experience that our employees have, the team here at Family Care of New Jersey realizes that with the right support and guidance people can obtain their dreams. Whether it be employment, living situations, community involvement, health goals or so much more. We are fully dedicated to making your dreams and goals a reality. We do this through detailed NJ Person Centered Planning Tool and NJ Individual Service Plans, designed uniquely to each person, ALWAYS putting your wants and needs first!

When you join our family, you will become the newest member of a tightly knit group. Our employees will work endlessly to ensure that not only you, but your families as well, identify and help you gain access to the supports you need. There is no such thing as an unobtainable feat or an unreachable dream. When there is a will, there is a way - our job is to find that way.
