Working on the Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Sheila is known for her tireless work ethic, gentle bedside manner, and unwavering commitment to patient care. She doesn’t just care for her patients; she uplifts her team, serving as a preceptor and mentor to new staff, ensuring that excellence is passed on with every interaction.”

Excerpt from Maurice's recognition: “Since joining UNC Health Lenoir on October 10, 2022, as a pharmacy technician, he has demonstrated remarkable efficiency and accuracy in both prescription preparation and IV compounding, ensuring that patients receive timely and safe care. His positive attitude is evident even on the most challenging days, as he consistently greets others with a smile and offers encouragement to his colleagues. Committed to continuous professional growth, Maurice is always seeking ways to strengthen his skills and contribute to the highest standard of care. “

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Dr. Aaron Cotten, a beloved individual, an exceptional emergency medicine physician, and a dedicated leader of our Emergency Department. Dr. Cotten was known not only for his medical expertise but also for his kindness, compassion, and unwavering commitment to his patients and colleagues. His impact on our hospital and community will be felt for years to come. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

The Lenoir County community is mourning the passing of Dr. Aaron Cotten, a beloved physician, educator, and leader whose impact spanned decades in medicine, emergency services, and public health.
