Birth doulas are trained and experienced professionals who provide continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to the expectant mother (and father) before, during, and immediately after childbirth. Research has shown that a doula’s presence increases the enjoyment of childbirth, shortens labors and requires less use of drugs during labor. As a Birth Doula, I support new mothers, babies, and families in a non-medical role. I work closely with the doctor, mid-wife and nursing staff. My clients report having shorter, less stressful labors and a more rewarding birth experience. My experience includes the birth of twins, C-section births and water births. As a Postpartum Doula and Lactation Specialist, I provide empowerment and education to the new mother with breastfeeding, newborn care and support the new father and family. The benefits my clients receive include more sleep, better nutrition, less worry, better lactation, less stress and a happier family. The value they receive leads them to very often refer me to their friends. I hold Birth Doula, Postpartum Doula and Lactation certifications from the Seattle Midwifery School. I am also a PALS certified Birth Doula and a NAPS certified Postpartum Doula and received my certificate as a Lactation Specialist from Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland.
