Our last dental hygiene spotlight is Callie Althide. Callie is a dental hygiene assistant who has been with our team for a little more than 3 years. She is so kind and great at putting our patients at ease. We are all so thankful to have her.

My favorite part of being a dental hygiene assistant is getting to know all of our patients and helping to educate them about all things oral health!
One fact that I find interesting is that just like fingerprints, tooth and tongue prints are unique to each person!
My best advice for improving your oral health is to make sure you see your dentist regularly (every 6 months). This is vital in preventing tooth decay, periodontal disease, and possibly untreated infection.
Sadly, dental care can often have a bad reputation. However, modern dentistry has made both preventative treatment and restorative dentistry much easier! It’s always important to express your concerns and we will do our part to make sure you are comfortable!

Our second spotlight for Dental Hygiene month is Madisyn Yadon, RDH. She’s a Kirksville native and recently moved back to the area with her family. We’ve been blessed to have her on our team! She takes such great care of our patients.

My favorite thing about being a dental hygienist is helping patients feel comfortable and confident about their oral health. It’s rewarding to see someone go from being nervous about their visit to leaving with a smile.

I think an interesting fact about oral health is that gum disease is linked to systemic health problems. Studies have found connections between periodontal(gum) disease and heart disease, diabetes, and even Alzheimer’s.

The best advice I have about improving oral health is to set realistic goals and stay consistent. Perfect brushing once in a while doesn’t matter as much as good habits every day. Consistency keeps plaque from turning into tartar.

The best advice I have for someone who is nervous about the dentist is that its completely normal to feel nervous — a lot of people do! The best thing you can do is let your dental team know how you’re feeling. We’re here to help, not judge. We can explain each step before we do it, take breaks if you need them, and make sure you’re comfortable the whole time. Every visit is a step toward keeping your smile healthy — and most patients leave feeling so much better than when they walked in.

Our first Dental hygiene spotlight is Megan Baugh, RDH. She has been a part of our team for nearly 8 years!

My favorite thing about being a hygienist is building relationships! I want to do my best for every patient and I want them to trust that I will. My hope is that they enjoy coming to the dental office which historically isn’t a place that people look forward to! This is a great office because we all want our patients and friends to have good experiences with us.
My best advice for a healthy mouth is understanding what makes it healthy or unhealthy. Different foods and beverages affect your teeth and overall health differently. How often (and how well) you brush and floss makes a huge difference. Having arthritis can make oral care more difficult and maybe you need one extra professional cleaning each year to keep you in tip top shape! Every mouth has specific needs which will differ from you to your spouse to your children. I’m here to figure out a plan to keep your mouth healthy!

Thanks Megan for caring so well for our patients. We appreciate you!!! ❤️
