Drs. Patricia Zemantic and Chris Courson will lead a discussion on early signs of autism spectrum disorder in toddlers, information about a new diagnostic tool, how ASD is diagnosed in toddlers, and a Q&A.

Can't make it tonight? We have two more sessions on Friday, September 5, 2025 - the first from 12 - 1pm, and the second from 8 - 9pm.

If you know me, you probably know I'm also a volunteer firefighter and EMT. I've had the opportunity to teach a great number of first responders about autism and that has helped achieve some real, positive outcomes in emergencies. But let's back up and be proactive. This form from NAA is a good one to provide to your local communications center and first responders BEFORE your child wanders. Keep in mind, in rural areas or in situations of open enrollment, you may need to provide copies to the agencies where you reside in addition to the agencies in the area of the school.

Check out the Foundational Driving Program at UNMC Munroe-Meyer Institute!

Sign up now! The occupational therapy department at the Munroe-Meyer Institute is now accepting participants for the Foundational Driving Program.

The program consists of two tracks: Functional Driving and Community Mobility. Pathways are aimed at exploring independence and building confidence with navigating the community.

In today’s world, it's rare for a child to be out & about alone without an adult, siblings, or peers nearby. If you see one, please check in. They might have , and you might save a life.

PS: We've seen this happen in schools as well -- teachers may think the student is running to the bathroom, or that they're just being a kid, and the student exits the building or schoolyard. Schools should ensure that all teachers are familiar with autistic students who attend the school as part of a school-wide emergency plan.

AAP's Zoo Night is this Saturday at 6:30pm. There are still spots available of you haven't registered. We'd love for you to join us!

PLEASE READ BEFORE REGISTERING!
This is a night for people on the autism spectrum and their loved ones who may not get to go to the Zoo other times of the year due to a number of different factors such as sensory issues. Please only sign up if you are part of this community as it could be taking away the opportunity for another family who only gets to go during these events.
Due to the overwhelming popularity of our recent zoo events—and a high number of no-shows after registration—we’re introducing registration limits and a small fee to help ensure spots are reserved by those who truly plan to attend. Our goal is to make sure as many families as possible can enjoy this special experience together!
Important details:
- $2 per ticket
- Maximum of 6 tickets per family
- If you purchase more than 6, only 6 will be reserved and you’ll receive a follow-up email. NO REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED FOR THOSE WHO PURCHASE MORE THAN 6 TICKETS.
- This is an after-hours event — some animals may not be visible due to their natural sleep cycles
- The penguin exhibit lights will be dimmed to maintain the natural sleep cycle of the animals
- Concessions will be available
- The gift shop will be open
