Kami and Carly cared for one of my patients who experienced a loss. They demonstrated compassion, kindness, dedication and patient centered care throughout the duration of her stay. In a unit that is typically associated with “happy” outcomes, they took a tragic situation and turned it into a healing experience for the patient and her entire family.
They represent the true embodiment of a caring nurse and make me proud to work here at Sky Lakes Medical Center. The gratitude I feel for the healing they provided cannot be put into words. From coming in to offer support while not on shift, to purchasing and preparing remembrance pieces for the patient and her family, they both went above and beyond. DAISY Foundation

TOPIC: Hormones
Sky Lakes family medicine physician Dr. Stewart Decker is back for another jargon-free discussion on health issues! This month will cover causes and treatments for headaches, plus a town-hall-style “patient Q&A” of general questions. (The Q&A is also a great time to suggest future Doc Talk topics!) Like our Lay Person Legal presenters, Dr. Decker’s ability to comment on your specific condition is limited.

Our Story

Nestled at the base of the Cascade Mountain Range's eastern slope in south-central Oregon, Sky Lakes Medical Center is the only full-service hospital in a 75-mile radius and serves some more than 80,000 people in a 10,000-square-mile area of southern Oregon and northern California.

Sky Lakes Medical Center was built by the community in 1965 with a combination of money generated through fundraisers and federal grants. It continues to be a full-service, stand-alone, not-for-profit community hospital, licensed for 176 beds. The hospital’s family includes primary care and specialty clinics, a home health agency, and the Cancer Treatment Center. Sky Lakes is not affiliated with any large healthcare system, nor does it receive direct financial support from taxes.

The hospital achieved national accreditation just three years after it opened, and maintained full accreditation by The Joint Commission until it earned international accreditation from Det Norske Veritas (DNV) in 2009 and continues to be accredited today.

Sky Lakes Medical Center, its employees, volunteers, and medical staff are partners with the community in social and economic issues as well as healthcare matters. We consider the medical center to be a vital community asset that stands ready to help make the region we serve healthier.
