Happy Wednesday all! I apologize for being gone so long but some family and health obligations needed to be paid attention to. In the last few weeks I have been given a very interesting lesson in protecting my energy.
Protecting your energy doesn't have to involve cutting people from your life or becoming a lonely hermit if you don't want it to. All protecting your energy really means is that you are making the conscious choice not to absorb the moods or emotional shifts of the people around you. You're also making the conscious choice not to allow your energy to effect the energies of others.
For people like me who tend to be a "mood sponge" and can very easily soak up and embody someone else's mood or emotions, it can be tiring and stressful to be around others. Creating a little barrier so that you can function around people and be empathetic without harming yourself is very important and a good way to set healthy boundaries. I'm going to be writing a three part series on my experiences with setting energetic boundaries in the coming weeks. In the meantime, remember that it's important to protect your energy. This is, in my opinion, one of the highest and simplest forms of self care.

Happy Wednesday!

I’m feeling productive and excited about all the new additions coming to The Looking Glass! This week I’ll be working on a set of polymer clay runes that will be available for sale when the new Looking Glass Website is launched. Stay tuned!

Last week, as I was battling some health issues, I felt as though I was stuck in a proverbial ditch. As the week drew to a close I began to get panicked by that feeling and worried that I wouldn’t be able to climb out anytime soon.

Then I remembered a line from my favorite movie of all time, Labyrinth. There is a scene where a wise old man with a talking hat is advising Sarah, the main character on how to proceed through a literal labyrinth. He tells Sarah “Quite often young lady, it seems like we’re not getting anywhere when in fact, we are.”

That line in particular serves to remind me that, even though it sometimes feels like I’m slogging through figurative “peanut butter”, I’m still on the path. I’m still moving forward. Don’t let the pace of your path worry you. Sometimes we can only move a few inches at a time but, even a few inches is progress. Stay the course and know that a more comfortable pace is coming.

Good Morning and Happy Wednesday!

After a little bit of a contentious battle with my body yesterday, I’m back in the swing of things and looking forward to getting back to work on some new Elder Futhark Rune themed jewelry and some soaps in scents that will compliment the coming season! Stay tuned for more!

Today is Inauguration Day in the US and, for many here in the States, it marks the end of a dark time in our collective history and the beginning of hope. For others in this country, it is very much the opposite. No matter where you stand on the spectrum of darkness vs. light, remember that you are more than the circumstances that surround you in the moment. You can choose to keep moving forward and, in doing so, become the light in your darkness.

Happy Tuesday to All!

Fact about Tuesday - The name Tuesday is derived from the old English “Tiwesdaeg” meaning “Tiw’s Day”. Tiw is an old English translation of the “Tyr” the Norse god of single combat, law and justice.

The Looking Glass is undergoing some major changes in the New Year. We’re updating our logo, working on resurrecting our web presence on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest and Tumblr and getting a new and improved website. We’re also working on getting the Etsy website back up so all of our products will be available to purchase.

As I go through the various steps needed to change, update and make The Looking Glass more professional, I find myself wrestling with the nature of change itself. For those of you who believe that zodiac signs influence personality, I’m a Ta**us which is considered a “fixed” earth sign. What that means is that I like things to be established and remain the same. Steady, sturdy and well rooted with no changes. There have been times in my life when even the word “Change” has given me butterflies in my stomach or made my mouth dry. The concept that something I worked on making sturdy and well rooted is going to be uprooted to become something else, even if it’s an improvement, causes a certain amount of fear in my mind. So, in that moment I’m at a crossroads. I can stay where I am and be contented with what I have or I can keep moving forward and make what I’ve already built different. Maybe even...better.
It always reminds me of that scene from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade at the end where he’s trying to follow his father’s map to the grail. He’s supposed to cross a land bridge that he can’t see. The canyon below is a long way down and it looks like there is no human way across the divide. But, as only Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones could, he very apprehensively put his foot out over the cliff and landed directly on the bridge. He was terrified at first because you can see in his eyes that he fully expected to fall. But not only did he not fall, he found the exact thing he was looking for. The bridge that he had to find with faith. It doesn’t matter if what you have faith in is your family or a deity or science or yourself. Find your faith and use it to conquer the fear of change. Ride the wave that change supplies with the faith that, while it may feel like you’re stepping off a cliff, you’re actually finding the exact bridge you need to get to your best self.

HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL!!!

Happy New Year and congratulations for making it through the hellish labyrinth of 2020!

After an end of year struggle with a case of COVID-19, I’m back on my feet and back in the Looking Glass workshop to put out more of our salves in our original scents and a few new ones as well. I’m working on a few new items as well. I’ll soon be coming out with hand made soaps flavored with organic ingredients and essential oils and some new incenses that are scented with herbs that correspond to the different Pagan Sabbats. I’ve still got my salves and jewelry available on my Etsy site and will, soon, be selling on Amazon as well. Stay tuned for more info.

As I was doing my New Years tarot reading I came to the realization that, while 2021 was a brand new year full of all different kinds of possibilities and the potential for success, the new year doesn’t bring these things without some work on my part. In previous years, I believed that, in a brand new year, the things that I wanted and the dreams that I had would magically appear when they were supposed to. As I was meditating on the new year however I think it really hit me that, unless I’m willing to put the energy out and do the work for what I want to see manifested in my life, it likely won’t just appear. Now, of course there are some things that happen that way and I in no way wish to stifle the idea that magic happens and sometimes, simply being in the right place at the right time is all you need to make a dream come true. But I think Balance dictates that we as people who wish to see our dreams manifest into our real lives, have to be willing to meet the universe halfway. Not only does this concept work in terms of manifesting what you want in your life, but this extends to the desire for healthy relationships, healthy minds, bodies and souls.
For me, not wanting to do the work to manifest what I want in my life comes as much from a fear of succeeding as it does from a fear of failing. I hate the idea that I would put a bunch of work into something to never see it go where I want it to. That said, I’ve recently come to the realization that I am just as fearful of succeeding. Succeeding means change in my life and I, like many, don’t like my life changing dramatically. But fear, at least for me, is simply an emotion that occurs when I don’t understand something. The only antidote to that fear, is to delve in and understand it as best I can. To understand a thing is to remove the fear from it.
So, in this new year my challenge to myself and to anyone who wishes to try it, is going to be to put in the work to see the things I want in my life come to fruition. I challenge you all to work to understand the things that frighten you and do the work to see your dreams, relationships, and desires for the world around you come true.

May your day be full of balance, health and joy.

Happy Wednesday everyone! After a few years off to live life and find my own personal balance, I'm working on The Looking Glass again and am very excited about some of the new items I'll be creating for you. The Looking Glass line of salves and a few new jewelry pieces are now available on my Etsy website: www.etsy.com/shop/TheLookingGlassNLP

I'm also working on some new salves and re-working some classics:

** COMFY COMFREY SALVE - I've created some new scents in addition to the original lavender scent. Comfy Comfrey Salve now comes in Clary Sage, Cypress, Lavender & Rosemary and Bergamot.

** JABBERWALKY FOOT SALVE - After doing some reworking of the original recipe, I’ve now got a new updated version of this salve that has a more cooling effect than the original. It is also now made with apple cider vinegar to help act as a natural antifungal. This salve will come in the original Menthol & Mint scent as well as a Rosemary & Mint scent.

** SHOO ROCKING HORSEFLY ITCHY SALVE (Formerly the Once Bitten Salve) - This recipe has also been reworked a bit to give the anti-itch properties more of a kick. It also now comes in three new scents in addition to the original scent free version. Shoo Bread & Butterfly Itchy Salve is available in Lavender, Rosemary & Mint and Cypress.

There will be more salves coming out in the coming months so don’t forget to check back for updates.

The Looking Glass Comfy Comfrey Salve is now available for sale at Cheap Rentals in Mission Beach, California. They are available in 1oz. Sizes as well as a .25oz. Salve stick.
