Our Dandelion Herbal Center co-director, Allison Poklemba , and her conifer-crazed husband, Michael Kauffmann .kauffmann, had the recent joy of joining the wonderful Thomas Dick of on their Herbal Radio Podcast: Everything You Didn’t Know About Herbalism.

Listen in at our 🔗 in comments as these three discuss plant passion origin stories, education, exploration, ecology, conifers and seaweed and mushrooms (of course!), and much more.

Allison and Michael share their combined insights and knowledge on the vast ecology that surrounds our world, and how bettering our understanding of plants can help us to foster a better understanding of ourselves.

: There’s even some hefty coupon codes in the show notes for books & classes 💚

You always take me by surprise, Spring. In the moment your vigor seems so unexpected.

Aren’t we still in get-cozy-and-hibernate mode?

Half of my being shouts: “Wait! Slow down. I’m not ready!” while the other is tugged joyfully towards garden daydreams.

If you are feeling the energy of this in-between time as well, then you are right on schedule.

The halfway point between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox falls on February 1st — today!

As vibrant energy rises upwards from the roots of our plant allies and their shoots begin to grow with fervor, we can infuse this energy into our own lives as well.

Go out into the great green world and see what’s sprouting… or if you’re on the Pacific Coast, what’s already BLOSSOMING!

Spring is definitely springing in our neck of the woods.

With this find from the morning’s stroll with dear friend , we can confidently say . . .

Welcome to WILDFLOWER SEASON!!

Please enjoy this little meet ‘n greet with one of my favorite wildflowers, the fetid adderstongue (Scoliopus bigelovii) aka slinkpod.

This shy forest floor lily has a… let’s call it “peculiar” aroma and is pollinated by fungus gnats.

Once the flowers are pollinated their pedicel (flower stem) elongates, “slinking” away to deposit the seeds back on the soil adjacent to the parent plant.

Get out there soon to look for these beauties in moist forest spots and damp cutbanks before the flowers slink away!

💧We’re dipping a pinky toe in the podcasting pool!

We’ll be sharing tales from our Herb School on the North Coast of California, take you on Herb Walks, and chat with inspiring people collaborating with plants to create art, medicine, community, and so much more.

In this first episode Dandelion’s co-directors, Allison Poklemba and Jessica Shepherd, sip tea and reflect on the evolution of their relationships with plants, and the completion of their first year carrying Dandelion’s founder, Jane Bothwell’s, hefty and illuminating teaching torch.

In the flow of their conversation you’ll get a sense of the joy, the wonder, and the meaning that fills both their tea cups through the good work of connecting people with plants for healing & happiness, and for community connection & nature connection.

We invite you to take a listen:

(Spotify is being glitchy, but 🤞that bit will work soon!)

P.S. Choosing a name for this project was HARD, but then a friend told me that “Diaries are sexy!!! Full of magic and secrets!” so how could we not go with Dandelion Diaries?!?

💚 Loving you all!
