Good afternoon friends.
Today is 60 days since I temporarily closed Uzima Springs offices due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The directive from the NC Governor indicated that reopening will be in phases. On May 18th, Phase one business were allowed to open. Phase two is scheduled for Friday May 22nd.
There are a lot of people calling for businesses to reopen.
We need to work to feed our families, pay our bills, buy the necessary things that keep us alive, make our living.
Many people have not received any unemployment benefits nor loans of any kind, myself included and therefore financially it is very, very stressful.
Many Massage therapists fall in the above category and are looking to get back to work as soon as the word is given.
However, there are certain considerations to be noted.
Given that most of our work is done in a confined, small room mostly interior to the building and no windows hence no fresh air from the outside.
We spend more than 15 minutes, the maximum recommended time according to CDC, with a client in this space. This increases exposure for transmission of the disease.
There is NO distance between us and the client/patient
Majority of our clients are immune compromised and therefore fall in the high risk category.
As far as the PPE requirement, Massage therapy may not be effectively given by a therapist in fully dorned with the PPE.
There are many requirements that need to be met to make the space safe for our clients. Some of the requirements are expensive.
Most of the top massage therapist experts in the country still advise to not open and wait. This disease is changing everyday presenting in different symptoms. Following the scientists as they do research is like working on a puzzle with a new piece added every day, a piece you will have to figure out where to add or replace and which one to move or remove if it's no longer relevant. Many moving parts in one big PUZZLE - COVID-19.
I am not an expert, and so I can only take the advice of the experts based on what they are recommending, especially experts in my field of work.
IT IS STILL NOT SAFE TO PERFORM MASSAGE THERAPY.
We need more guidance, we need this disease to stabilize.
Like one of our peers said, massage therapy and the therapists will still be there to work with you. NOW IS NOT THE TIME.
We need to be SAFE for YOU, SAFE for US.
And so after 18 years of serving in the Raleigh/Knightdale area, Uzima Springs Wellness Center will Close it's doors, FOR NOW.
In these 18 years, I have worked with a good many of you and come to know you personally and your families. I have developed long term friendships as we have formed the UZIMA SPRINGS FAMILY. I miss doing the work that has become to me a MINISTRY. Work that I have come to LOVE and enjoy.
BUT FOR NOW WE NEED TO KEEP SAFE.
I will miss each and everyone of you. BUT WE WILL BE BACK, when the time is RIGHT and SAFE.
When we have better directions on how to Give our services safely.
I can only pray that you all stay safe and well.
THANK YOU FOR TRUSTING MY HANDS, FOR WORKING WITH ME TO FIND SOLUTIONS FOR YOUR PAIN AND DISCOMFORTS.
You have challenged me to be a better Therapist, to seek the knowledge to help you and others.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be part of your healthcare provider over the years. Thank you for your friendship.
THANK YOU FOR HONORING ME, I AM TRULY HUMBLED.
BLESSINGS
