If you want to grow more food, be more self sufficient, and deepen your knowledge of the natural world this year, check out our permaculture design course at Plant Path Nursery!!

Permaculture is a multidisciplinary design science that enables us to create long lasting ecosystems that meet all of our needs while giving back to the earth that supports us all.

In this 72 hour course that spans an entire growing season we will explore:
-botany
-plant propagation
-rain water catchment and water management
-regenerative food production
-food preservation
-herbal medicine making
-natural building
-natural bee keeping
-alternative energy
And much much more!

Students will go home with trees, berry bushes, mushroom logs, and perennial vegetables to start your very own forest garden or permaculture homestead!! You will also be taking home fermented vegetables, herbal extracts, and delicious garden fresh goodies (that you will harvest and process in the course) to enjoy and share with friends and family.

is drawing to an end, so this is our last chance for fruit and nut until fall! Likewise we only have a couple of weeks left to sweet potatoes, long season squash family members, canna edulis, yacon, and turmeric.

We're hosting an intro to permaculture workshop this Sunday here at the nursery! Attendees will go home with plants to care for and anyone who donates $30 or more will get graft an apple seedling to take home and care for!

This year's at is now live! The link is my bio 😁

Each year this course gets a little more refined, with more hands on projects, additions to the curriculum and super awesome field trips!

One thing we've changed about this year is the option to reserve individual days. This way you can join in for only the specific portions of the curriculum you are most interested in, or just pay for the course one weekend at a time.

Im super excited to have chickens living at plant path now, so you can be certain that care and integration will be included in the topics we cover.

We will also be diving into details on how we are heating the water for our outdoor shower and bathtub with which is a technology i have been excited about for years!

We will also be diving deeper this year into digital design tools and encouraging attendees to put together their very own digital design.

Folks are welcome to camp out Friday and Saturday night, especially if you are coming from far away. We will have potluck style lunches and there will be outdoor kitchen space available for preparing meals.

As usual this course will take you through an entire growing season and include projects relevant to the time of year. We will start seedlings from cuttings and root divisions, and process permaculture staple foods, prepare inoculate logs, explore plant identification through basic and so much more!

Students will be going home with everything from cuttings you can grow in your own garden, to you can share with your friends and family.

Spreading comfrey in full bloom this patch started as a single root cutting (we have some available) and in one season we had a patch! Excellent at combating grass and other prolific plants while providing a great chop and drop for perennials!

It is prime time for planting and hicans are some of the most exciting trees to plant! Never heard of a hican before? Read on!

Hicans are a cross between pecan and shellbark hickory that happens naturally in places where their ranges overlap. Orchardists, realizing the potential for incredible nut production have selected and bred many varieties of hican, and here at plant path nursery, our favorite among them (and the only one we currently keep in stock) is the McCallister!

It's has the largest nuts native to North America and their flavor is absolutely incredible! Think of a pecan with less bitterness and more notes of maple syrup! The nuts themselves can weigh over 35 grams easily, and contain 14 grams of meat in their large thick shells. They also "crack out pretty easily with some practice 😉

We have hundreds of these seedlings available on our website (link in the bio) for just $15 each. It is recommended to plant 2 or more for cross pollination.

The best time to plant a hican is 50 years ago, the second best time is right now!

The 2023 at Plant Path Nursery is officially open for enrollment!

Teaching is a core focus in our work at Plant Path, and this permaculture design course is the most comprehensive and concise way that we share our knowledge.

We will dive into so many key skills throughout this course and visit some truly incredible sites throughout an entire growing season.

Students will go home with and to incorporate into their own

We will process and some of the top permaculture for the mid Atlantic bioregion

There will be camping on site for folks that come in from out of town, or for those that just want an excuse to camp out 😉

There are a limited number of scholarships available for those who need it.
