Yesterday we kicked off our May Grand Rounds series with our Chief of Chiefs, Dr. Brogan Fulks. She gave us a sobering look at the state of maternal mortality in our country and Tennessee specifically.
We are thankful to be able to serve our community & strive to improve rates of maternal morbidity and mortality in our community.

Today our very own, Emily Shelton, presented Grand Rounds on the history and present state of home birth. It was a great presentation that gave us lots of food for thought and new perspective. We are so proud of her!

On Friday, we had an Operative Vaginal Delivery Didactics and Simulation! We learned about the history of forceps, types of forceps and then practiced FAVD, VAVD and pipers! We are very fortunate to have multiple providers at who are proficient in forcep assisted vaginal delivery & love sharing such an important skill set with residents!

While it seems like there is a 'day' for everything, today is a unique one. It is Thank A Resident Day - established by the Gold Humanism Honor Society as a day to recognize the hard work and importance of Resident Physicians in hospitals. HIROC is very grateful for the opportunity to work with the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at The University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine. It truly is a privilege to work with their extremely talented Residents. Our physicians, staff, and patients are very fortunate to have the Residents as part of their care team.

To round out wellness week, we practiced on Thursday with chair massages (we were all too relaxed to take a pic). Yesterday we spent the afternoon volunteering at taught students in their Knox Works course about pregnancy, contraception and substance use disorder.
