Daisy Doula Services

Daisy Doula Services Holistic Doula, Childbirth Educator & Placenta Specialist. Serving Greater Knoxville, surrounding areas, and virtually 💛

I'm Jerika- a full-spectrum doula, placenta specialist, and student midwife. I started my journey to birth work in 2020. I believe birth is a natural, sacred process that deserves to be respected, honored, and supported with care that's both evidence-based and compassionate. I also believe everyone and every birth deserves to be empowering, not just unmedicated “natural” births- whether it’s a scheduled cesarean, an epidural birth, or an induction! Supporting all types of families and all birth options—home births, hospital births, birth centers, VBAC, cesarean, medicated, unmedicated, and everything in between.

Let's chat! I offer free consultations so you can see if we're a good fit. I'd love to walk alongside you on this beautiful journey.

🍂Flu & RSV season is coming—let’s keep our little ones safe.🍂

Gentle reminder: PLEASE do not kiss or hold babies’ and toddlers’ hands or faces if they’re not your child.✨

What may feel like a small gesture of love can actually spread germs that little ones’ bodies aren’t strong enough to fight yet. Let’s protect their health by showing care in safer ways—like a smile, a wave, or a kind word.

Because keeping them safe is the best way we can show our love.👼🏻🤎

His DNA doesn’t just shape the baby, it also impacts your pregnancy it more ways than you may think.

The placenta is built from the baby’s cells, half of which come from the father.

The father’s genes help control your blood pressure, hormone levels and how your body responds to stress.

Problems with his DNA can increase the risk of miscarriages, failed implantation and chemical pregnancies.

Some studies even link his DNA to other pregnancy symptoms and complications such as morning sicknes, preeclampsia and gestational diabetes.

The saying “it takes two to make a baby” carry’s more weight than we once thought.

Your body isn’t just growing a baby, it’s responding to his genetic blueprint too.

there was a time they called childbirth the
“knock ‘em out, drag ‘em out” era. can you image ?

mothers weren’t given a choice.
they were drugged into twilight sleep
morphine to dull the pain.
scopolamine to erase the memory.

they were strapped into padded beds.
blindfolded. ears stuffed.
sometimes bound in straight-jacket-like shirts
so they wouldn’t move while giving birth.

the neighbors could hear them screaming.
and when it was over,
many mothers didn’t even remember if the baby was theirs.

this is the history we come from.
a history where women were silenced,
where control over our bodies was stripped away.

and yet, even then
when they woke to a baby in their arms,
their bodies still made milk.
still created the perfect food,
drop by drop, cell by cell,
as if to say:
“you took everything from me,
but you cannot take this.”

mama, never doubt the power you hold.
breastfeeding is resistance.
it is survival.
it is legacy.

share this to remind the world
how far we’ve come
and why we should never stop fighting for birth and breastfeeding freedom.

Delayed Cord Clamping

Right after a baby is born and still attached to the umbilical cord, the baby continues to receive blood, nutrients, stem cells and oxygen from the placenta (that is still attached to the uterine wall). Holding off of clamping and cutting the umbilical cord offers a number of benefits to your baby. The placenta can contain up to a third of your baby’s blood volume, that blood belongs to your baby!

Research shows that delayed cord clamping results in:

*Increased blood volume in your baby (between 50-160mL of blood)

*Increased red blood cells (higher hematocrit)

*Increased hemoglobin

*Increased Iron stores up to 50% (decreases the risk of anemia in your baby for up to 6 months)

*Baby continues to get oxygenated blood from the placenta while adjusting to life outside the womb, if they are slow to take a first breath.

*Increased brain development, myelin production ( better developmental scores, and neurological outcomes)

*Decrease in brain bleeds and intestinal issues in preterm babies

*Encourages undisturbed golden hour- being attached to your baby for longer, promotes skin to skin contact, which increases oxytocin and also gives the birthing person and baby time to adjust to this new life together.

Your care provider should be encouraged to leave baby attached to the placenta for a minimum of 2-5 min to receive all these amazing benefits. Many of my clients choose to wait until the placenta is delivered before asking to have the cord cut.❤️

💡 Exciting Study Alert! 💡

A recent clinical trial published in the International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecological Nursing shows the powerful impact of the Spinning BabiesÂŽ approach!

When labor and delivery nurses at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Florida adopted our techniques, their cesarean rate dropped from 27% to 14%. 🙌

This study reinforces the importance of supporting the body’s natural alignment and movement to create smoother, more balanced birth experiences. When birth professionals are equipped with the right knowledge and skills, we can reduce interventions and improve outcomes for both parents and babies.

📚 You can read more about the research backing the Spinning Babies® approach on the research and references page.
