Day 4 of Rebuilding my Nervous System as a hypometabolic carnivore
Don't get me wrong, I love carnivore. I started it in 2020 - best health of my life!
Then, I got exposed to mold which triggered Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome - that inflammatory response upregulated certain genes and downregulated others to cause me to be hypometabolic.
Hypometabolism means your body isn't as efficient at converting food into energy, especially when you are carnivore and all the burden of supplying glucose to your brain (yes, your brain needs glucose) falls on your liver through a process called gluconeogenesis.
Signs you might be hypometabolic include:
✨ Feeling heavy/sore after workouts
✨ Push/crash levels of fatigue
✨ If keto macros used to make you feel good but now they feel "grindy"
If you are hypometabolic, your body might feel under-resourced because it doesn't have easy energy. Adding in some carbs to provide easy access to glucose might feel safer for your body right now.
So what do I eat? It's a little easier to explain what I don't eat:
✨ Seed Oils
✨ Seeds/Nuts
✨ Grains (except for rice, rice works for me YMMV)
✨ Nightshades
✨ Oxalate-heavy foods
✨ Dairy
And realistically this means most of my diet is meat. I eat a serving or two of rice and 2-3 servings of fruit for carbs (especially on strength training days) and the occassional serving of brussel sprouts, broccoli, zucchini, or cauliflower.
My body feels SO GOOD eating this way, I have lots of energy and I have really great poops - what more could a girl ask for? 😇💩
If we haven’t met, hi! My name is Jacie, your nervous system bestie. After years of high achieving + chronic illness my body said “I can’t take this anymore.” Tired of pushing through burnout and overwhelm, I decided to stop fighting my body. This nervous system journey has helped me and I want it to help you too!
