Please help caregivers by asking your state legislators to vote "YES" on HB2599 and HB1443.👇
💜HB2599 will continue and sustain the Alzheimer’s and dementia respite care program that was established by The Colonel Thomas G. Bowden Memorial Act -- sponsored by Rep. Ryan Williams and Senator Shane Reeves -- and signed into law in 2022.
Respite care provides caregivers a temporary relief (a few hours a week) from caregiving, while their loved one living with Alzheimer’s and dementia continues to receive care in a safe environment. Providing respite and other care services to those living with Alzheimer's may delay or supplant the need for transfer to a long-term skilled nursing facility, allowing the individual with Alzheimer's to remain in their home environment.
💜Meanwhile, HB1443 takes an innovative approach to providing critical support to caregivers of family members living with Alzheimer's and dementia-- providing up to $6,000 to family caregivers in support of expenses incurred -- and will allow eligible expenses for the purchase of medical equipment, medical supplies, respite care, alterations to residence, and other vital caregiving costs.
💜Ask them to vote "YES" on these two bills -- both very pertinent to Tennesseans living with Alzheimer's and dementia and their caregivers -- slated in House Finance, Ways and Means Subcommittee, Wednesday, March 18, 2026.
