Sometimes, as a genealogist, you have to hold your tongue. This is one of those times. I'm glad people are interested in family history, but unfortunately, heraldy isn't really a real thing. Only if you are actually descended from royalty, which rarely is accurate. Maybe I should set up a real genealogy booth at the next Renaissance festival 😂

For anybody who hasn't heard, East Tennessee and Western North Carolina's mountain cities and towns were ravaged by Hurricane Helene. Thankfully, Maryville didn't get anything terrible, but many, many other parts of the Smoky Mountains did. We are not typically hit by hurricane weather like this, and it took out a lot of infrastructure. Once they're able to assess needs and everything, please donate to authorized organizations to help out because a lot of these people no longer have homes because they were literally washed away, and many of these people who live further in the mountains have lived there for generations and may not have the financial ability to build it back. So help where you can, please, even if it's just prayers.

Unfortunately, we couldn't keep the old linoleum in my "new" house. It's coming together, though! Having a good community around you to help can make the work fun and fast.

Usually the grandparents are the ones who try to get you into genealogy 😂 Today I showed my grandma how to look at pictures and source on FamilySearch. She's still going and will show my grandpa pictures she finds of her grandparents and cousins. Sometimes you just have to teach people and then get out of their way!

Ever finally got her DNA results back! She's got a little more mixed in than I thought. She's still my cute, little "Yorki-poo", though! She's even got a few doggie cousins out there.

Happy St. Padraig's day! In honor of St. Paddy's day, here are a few fun facts that you might not know:
1. St. Patrick was NOT the first person to bring Christianity to Ireland.
2. There are more people outside of Ireland with Irish heritage than there are people living in Ireland.
3. In the 1840s, Ireland's population was around 9 million, and today, it's about half that.
4. Corned Beef is not an Irish food. It's American. Try rashers (or ham) instead.
5. It is possible to trace your Irish ancestors in Ireland. Reach out to me to find your connection to the Land of Saints and Scholars!

I FINALLY got home from my trip. I had an extended version to visit with family and friends. I was able to speak at the conference as well as attend some amazing classes. I also got to hang out with my cousins and record some stories from my grandparents. When Ever and I got home late last night, there was a surprise waiting for her. Her own Doggy DNA test! I'm excited to see if she really is a yorkipoo or some other poodle mix. Whatever she ends up being she's 100% cute!
