đ§ We often get asked what the difference between dry needling and acupuncture is.
đŞThey both are techniques that involve inserting fine needles into the skin. Dry needling focuses on targeting triggerpoints in the muscles in order to stimulate the contraction and release of that specific muscle. It was developed in the 1980s as a way to relieve muscle tension. Practitioners typically need a minimum of 30 hours to be able to practice this technique.
𫶠Acupuncture is a comprehensive medical system that has been around for thousands of years and involves stimulating specific acupuncture points on the body to address internal and balances as well as musculoskeletal issues. A licensed acupuncturist receives a minimum of 2,000 clinical and class instruction.
đŠââď¸đ¨ââď¸ Our doctors at West Knox Acupuncture will perform an initial consultation for every new patient and determine what the best course of treatment for them will be for their specific condition. Sometimes that may be dry needling but more often than not it will be acupuncture.
