There is so much misinformation out there about OCD, even among therapists. One of the things that makes me saddest as an OCD specialist is how often I hear about OCD sufferers who have been misdiagnosed or who were treated with the wrong type of therapy. This often leads to years of suffering for them. If you or someone you love struggles with OCD, go see someone who specializes in treating OCD using Exposure and Response Prevention. Also, seek out trustworthy information on sites, such as: www.iocdf.org
