My baby was crying. My toddler was screaming. My husband was at work and I felt so alone and helpless.⁠

I walked into the bathroom to escape and take a break. When I looked in the mirror, I saw a sticky note that said:⁠

This too shall pass.⁠

I felt my jaw soften and my shoulders relax. I took a deep breath and returned to the melee. ⁠

That sticky note certainly didn’t fix anything but it did take the edge off.⁠

Little reminders like that can make a big difference in how we experience difficult times.⁠

I like to keep these self-compassion phrases handy for support when things are crazy.⁠

Being compassionate towards myself means letting myself off the hook no matter what, right?

Wrong.

Self-compassion requires you to be fiercely honest with yourself.

💡Think of it this way:

If you see a close friend making the same mistake over and over again—if you can genuinely tell that they’re not making good choices—you wouldn’t just let it slide every time, would you?

You’d speak up and say, “You’re not making good choices. Let’s find a way to get you help.”

Same thing with yourself.

If you’re having trouble committing to something, get fiercely honest with yourself. Ask…

🧐 Am I going about it in a way that feels kind to where I’m at right now?

🧐 Do I need outside help to make helpful choices and stay on track?

The answers to those questions can help you take good care of yourself no matter what goal you’re trying to achieve.

The #1 thing I hear from new massage clients:

"Your massage is so different."

People have been telling me this for years!

But you know what? I've never really thought I'm doing anything extraordinary.

I had the most underwhelming massage education experience.

My state requires FAR FEWER hours of education to achieve licensure than other states and other countries.

Despite how incredibly basic my initial education was, one thing I learned there has stuck with me for all these years:

"Apply pressure to the muscle while moving the joint according to that muscle's actions."

So when you hop on my table, chances are you won't be still. I'll be moving your joints in all sorts of ways to melt tension and help you feel freer in your body.

HOT TAKE: New Year's resolutions suck.

Sure, it's nice to feel like you're getting a "fresh start" each year. A clean slate. A second chance.

Maybe you're coming off a restful holiday break and you have a sense of renewed energy and motivation.

I get it.

I feel those things too.

But how are you going to feel in a few weeks when you aren't hitting those Jan 1 goals?

Are you going to be kicking yourself for biting off more than you could chew?

Even though I'm going to be talking some about consistency, habit formation, and New Year's resolutions this month, I just need to get this out first:

You are worthy of love and belonging right now, just as you are.

Even if you don't change one thing.
Even if you fail at all your New Year's resolutions.
Even if you end 2022 exactly the same way you ended 2021.
