Ever wondered what a lice egg or also called a nit looks like? This is an empty nit. The louse creates a glue tube that goes around the hair shaft and secures the nit in place. These have to be combed out of the hair as they remain in place after the louse hatches and as the hair grows out for a very long time!

Lice can't live very long off the host so they are not living or laying eggs in the house. There is alot of old information that makes dealing with lice at home overwhelming but it doesn't have to be. Only what has been used in the last 48 hours by the affected person needs to be addressed. Lint roll couches, chairs, and car seats. Hairbrushes, hair accessories, caps, helmets, etc can be placed in the freezer for 8 hours and will be ready use again. Bedding, towels and clothing needed immediately can be dried on high heat for 45 minutes or just put the used items in the laundry and wash normally in 48 hours. They are not capable of burrowing into pillows or mattresses. That is it! No need to bag things for weeks at a time or throw items away. It’s time to shop for Halloween Costumes! Stay lice-free while you shop. When folks try on all the fun cool hats, wigs and helmets, lice can spread. If several people are trying on the same items, the risk increases. Don’t share anything that touches a head of hair unless:
