Sevier Ave is buzzing with excitement for the 5th annual SoKno Pride tomorrow!

🧘🏽 Pilates classes are canceled tomorrow, but you can still kick off the day getting grounded and moving in community. Join us for Pride Yoga with at 9:00 at Suttree Landing Park! No registration needed- just show up with your mat.

🌈 Our Sevier Ave studio will be closed to the public tomorrow, and it will serve as a green room for the drag performers.

Heads up! The marathon comes down Sevier Avenue on Sunday. We’re open for regular classes and massage appointments, but you’ll want to plan ahead and allow some extra travel time.

Some roads on the Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon route will be closed or limited this weekend. Plan ahead if you plan to be in the area. Visit https://knoxvillemarathon.com/marathon/ to see a turn-by-turn course description and a map of all the races included in the weekend's events, including the 5K and Kids Race on Saturday and the half and full marathon Sunday.

Teacher Spotlight ✨ JoAnn has been teaching at Bliss for almost TWO years now, but we want to share a little bit more about her story and how she found Pilates...

JoAnn grew up in New Jersey, where she participated in gymnastics from an early age. She graduated from Clemson and promptly began a career at a Department of Energy facility in South Carolina. During that time, she became a fitness instructor and personal trainer and she has taught many forms of fitness. Her vast array of exercise knowledge includes step, hip-hop, spin, TRX, and barre. She has competed in running and cycling events, triathlons, and mud-runs. Despite sustaining multiple injuries and surgeries along the way, JoAnn has always found that movement helps her find balance in her body and mind.

Here's JoAnn's story on how she found Pilates:
I learned about Pilates from my original fitness mentor, but I doubted its efficacy. A bike wreck in 2017 led me to revisit this movement system. This time I approached Pilates with a different mindset. After beginning in a regular practice, I was happy to discover new challenges and connections that led to immense growth. I couldn’t rely on my stronger “global” muscles to do the work, and had to develop a new kind of stability. I became physically and mentally stronger, and my quality of life improved. I love to share the joy of movement with my clients, regardless of their current fitness level, injuries, or age, or injuries. My goal is to help people find a love for movement while helping them learn to move safely and enhancing their everyday lives.

If you have taken a class with us in the studio, chances are you've used one or all of these props. We love using these tools to add support, challenge, and focus to exercises or to help invite awareness and unwind tension patterns.

You may have even left class or a massage with some homework to roll out that stubborn spot in your shoulder with a therapy ball, stretch your hamstrings with a band, or spend some time with a foam roller at home.

Did we say we love props yet? Well.. it's a great time to add to your props kit at home, grab an extra prop for the office, or gift your favorite prop to someone you love. They're all 15% off through the end of the year, so grab what you need next time you're in the studio!

Welcome Jeanene Winston to the studio!

Jeanene is an Apprentice Pilates Instructor and former professional dancer. While in NYC, she performed with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, The Peridance Ensemble, Battery Dance Company, and Thomas Ortiz Dance. Most notably, she was principal dancer for the Graham based modern dance company Buglisi Dance Theater for 8 years. She was a professor of modern dance at San Jose State University in California for 5 years before retiring from dance to spend more time with her husband and two children, and their family relocated to Knoxville in 2021.

She discovered Pilates while cross training for her professional dance career. This practice has helped Jeanene maintain strength to support her mobility and recover from various injuries. She is pursing Pilates certification to continue sharing her love of movement with others. She believes that Pilates is for every body, enjoys working with everyone, and she loves seeing physical connections being made and built upon.

A couple fun facts from Jeanene -
I am an arts enthusiast! I love live performances of any kind, vintage movies and music, and anything Mid Century. Taking a long walk with my kids is pretty perfect here in Tennessee too!

Finishing up at the studio before we close for the holiday, and I’m feeling super grateful for this space and the people who make it so wonderful.

We get to work with the best clients and team, and I love watching connections deepen within our community- finding balance, continually learning, growing, and evolving together.

We hope you all have a nourishing Thanksgiving, and we look forward to seeing you soon!
