We’re a pediatric office built on family.

Founded by Dr. Joe Black, Jr. in 1962 and followed shortly thereafter by Dr. James Benton, we have the privilege of caring for the children (and grandchildren!) of our first patients. We’re a pediatric office located in the heart of Fountain City and are honored to serve patients from all over East TN and surrounding states. We love welcoming new families to the area in our mission to guide parents in the care of their precious little ones.

Drs. Black and Benton Pediatrics is a second generation practice, as founder Dr. Joe Black, Jr. was joined by his son, Dr. Joe W. Black, III, and daughter-in-law, Dr. Monica Field Black, in 1987. Over the years partners have come and gone, but at the core of our practice we are family. There are currently three doctors: Dr. Monica Field Black, MD; Dr. David Teaster, MD (joined 1998); and Dr. Nancy Phillips, MD (joined 1999).

As one of the long-established pediatric offices in Knoxville, Drs. Black and Benton has helped foster the careers of a number of medical students and residents who ultimately chose pediatrics as their specialty and now practice in the area.
